Default X-Post: Questions Re: Center Locks - Cup Wheels vs. Street CL's

I bet Mooty can answer this....

Car: 997.1 GT3

1) Does anyone know of a CUP center lock conversion kit available for this application?

2) I believe there is a street center lock conversion (i.e. 997.2 style)....are the cup center lock wheels suitable for the street center locks, or are the cup wheels somehow different? In other words, do cup (specifically RSR BBS Motorsports rims, BBS 11 x 18” offset 30 mm
& BBS 13 x 18” offset 12 mm ) wheels work with the street CL kit?

Trying to plan an upcoming project with above rims and want to know what I'm up against to use these wheels:

It's all different. Mooty looked into conversion but is was too expensive.

Peter - are you confirming that a wheel from a cup car (like example in link above) will NOT bolt up with street center locks?

I ask this because I "could" start this project using a 997.2 GT3 instead of converting.

The whole world is trying to walk away from the C/Ls and you want them?
Why ? Plan to do timed pit stops?

Just saying..

PS. the race C/Ls don't fit PnP..

Oh trust me...I'd rather find a 5-lug version of the wheels in the link above for sure.

Can you clarify "the race C/Ls don't fit PnP"?

You can order any race BBS wheel with any offset in 18" or 19" in 5 lug or C/Ls.

I will just point out that the cup centerlocks are completely different from the RSR centerlocks as well....

Thanks claykos...what I suspected. Thankfully, 5-lug it is.

if you have .1, keep the 5 lugs.
you can convert to cup CL at very high cost.
5 lugs is the way to go.

2 options for a 997.1:

1. Covert your car to wheel studs in the same fashion as grand-am CUP.
(stronger, easier to change, and accept different wheels and offsets.)
Run BBS E88 wheels for track.
Use your factory wheels for street.

2. Convert to 997.1 CUP centerlocks.
Look for Grand-am CUP car teams with their factory center lock assembiles/wheels removed and collecting dust on their spare parts shelves.
Plan on selling your factory wheels at this point as they will never go back on the car once you paid for the conversion....
