Looks too civil for a top of the top, limited edition 911. Yes, the engine is unique and should be quite marvelous but the rest is very familiar.
The suspension bits are already added by many hardcore drivers and can be bought by after-market manufacturers. The dive-planes are likely to pop-up on Suncoast's website soon. And I guess that sums it up.
I don't believe it is worth the $50k premium over 3.8 RS. If I had the money, I'd go for a good, low option .2 RS and call it a day.

Looks good, but nothing revolutionary - good for current GT3 owners.
Sad that in Canada, it's $211K without a roll cage?! 500hp and 4.0L. I am more curious about the 991.1 GT3 after this LE,...
If I had the funds, this is a car to buy and hold,... or buy and enjoy!

RS 4.0 Microsite is up. Price is still listed as tbd. It looks like for the US, options will match regular RS options and PCCBs are not standard. You can still get front-end lift, Sound Plus and PCM. They don't show it listed as an option, but full leather will probably be on the list too since they do show it is not standard. It does get an Alcantara covered center console lid standard. So don't fret, every pre-specced one will be loaded up enough to make sure the sticker is over $200k. It does at least get the carbon fenders and front lid from the GT2 RS standard. Other good news is you don't have to get the red interior trim. You can get black trim with either red or black seat centers. I think both color combinations are a huge improvement from current RS 3.8. There are only 2 things I don't like: the graphics and the red at the bottom of the mirrors. Is it just me or does the center stripe remind anyone else of a Scuderia? With a stripe delete and painted mirror options, it will be about perfect.
Other things:
- Highway fuel economy is now listed as 19.5 mpg. Gas guzzler tax will be $3700-4500.
- Redline and limiter have lowered from the 3.8l to only 8250 rpms, same as the power peak. Although the engine is rated at 500 hp, you will never be able to use all of it. This is probably why the acceleration numbers aren't as impressive as we would expect with the power difference.
- Top speed is the same as an RS 3.8: 193 mph, 1 mph lower than a GT3 3.8. Best guess is with the shorter gearing and lower rev limit that it is gear limited for top speed.
One additional note:
GT3 and GT3 RS are no longer listed under the 911 models on Porsche's US site, confirmed production is done until they make a 991 version.

Redline is 8,500 per Pete (Savvyboy).
Full leather interior not listed. But "full leather" seats is a "no-charge" option.
Yup, a fully loaded car is about $217,000. I specced one out exactly like my 3.8 RS and that was the final MSRP.

This is the FIRST GT car that makes me WANT to go BACK underneath the KNIFE, have all the hardware removed from my BACK and have L5/S1 and L5/L4 Rebuilt with artificial discs that lock in place. I have been putting ANOTHER back operation off but this 4.0L makes me want to get FIXED then find some MONEY and then BUY this car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh to be fixed again!!!! Off to see my surgeon tomorrow, then all I have to do is find cash?
This makes that Nissan GTR thingy look like a atari game inside a 810 chassis.

The 997.1 GT3/RS makes 415 hp @ 7,600 RPM but still revs up to 8,400. The mkII GT3 makes 435 hp @ 7,600 RPM but revs up to 8,500. And mkII GT3 RS makes 450 hp @ 7,600 RPM again, while revving to 8,500.
So I'd hold on to the idea of the new 4.0 RS revving up to 8,250 RPM until it is official.

Dang Paul, sorry to hear your still having issues with your back. You would look good in that new 4.0. It won't be here till the fall so you have some time to get everything in order

the 4.0LE is a great car for somebody always wanting a GT3 but never had one. It is the best ever.
For those who currently own a GT3, 997.2 in particular will probably not run to the dealer looking for one with a high sticker , limited production run.
Only those with unlimited funds will buy these cars new and sunday drive them on occasion to preserve them.
Dont count on seeing owners pounding them on the track.....
I wouldnt sell the farm having already owned a couple of 997s, but i sure would like to have one.
Bring on the 991 GT3 for better or worse. That will ultimately decide the the fate of the 4.0LE

We have to wait and see the power and torque curves for this new 4.0 -- I imagine the "area under the curve" between the 3.8 and 4.0 will be impressive.
