Question Paint to sample special colors on the RS

Who has succeeded in getting a custom, or older Porsche color on their RS?

The configuration tool still doesn't carry it. I guess some dealers are getting it done for their customers. How much did you pay?

If you search, you will see that a few guys on the forum actually did get PTS. The configurator never has it and production has stopped anyway, so unless you ordered one already and are waiting for delivery, you will have to buy one that is already in a showroom or a used one.

Next GT3/GT3RS will be years down the road. Porsche is getting ready for the new 991 version of the 911 and those will be out in spring of 2012. 1st cars will be Carrera and Carrera S type of cars, then Cabriolets later in 2012 and then the Turbo model for 2013. Any GT3 type of car will not be out until 2014.

This is the way it was told to me by a Porsche team member at the 12hr Sebring race I spoke with and 2 dealers I have spoken with.

Who knows what they will allow on the 4.0 LE I realize that the RS's are always late in the model run.

Given the high-margin and relatively high production of .2 RS...maybe they'll be in more of a rush with the 991 GT and RS cars?

I was able to get an 11rs in Mexico Blue. It was extremely difficult and I believe one of the last PTS cars delivered (March). As somebody already said they stop taking PTS orders on RS's sometime last Oct/Nov. I highly doubt the new 4.0 will offer PTS. Your best route is to find a PTS car sitting on a dealer lot (rare) or somebody willing to sell ther PTS car (rarer).

Yes, you also wonder if homologation of new car is a priority for GT racing - since many are wondering if the current RSR can remain competitive?

I got PTS, black of all colors--it cost me I think $5k and an additional 3 months to be produced, but it's what I wanted so I paid up. Yes, I realize it's ridiculous to pay $5k for black of all colors, but I love it and have no regrets. Good luck.

That cracks me up! A black PTS! (We have a guy locally who calls his Carrera S a PTS black car!) However, it does make your car unique in that no one else (easily) has a PTS Black GT3.

You lost me on this....black is a standard color on Porsche cars.

Mdrums: The .2 RS had limited color selections. Unlike the .1 RS, 'Black' was not one of the exterior colors offered as 'standard'. So if you wanted 'Black', you had to order it PTS. Beverly Hills Porsche has a slightly used .2 RS in 'Black'. You will see that one of the options is Paint to Sample. It was a $5,500 charge. To have the wheels, rear view mirror and rear spoiler trim in 'Black' (as you will see in that car), that was a additional charge too! And a very expensive one at that.

On a historical note, 'Black' was not always offered by Porsche as standard. Back in 356 days, it was often missing for years. And in the early 911 days, it was never seen. I think the first 'Black' offered in a 911 was in 1973 as a 'special order' exterior color and they charged you extra for it back then too. z356 (carmel)
