i have had mine for almost 2 years now (.2 gt3). have over 20,000 miles and the original front spoiler with no (one little) scratches, no lift system. you just have to know how to drive low cars and mine was lowered 10mm in front and 13mm rear from day one.
having had a 996 and 997.1 turbo, and now the .2 gt3, would never go back. this car is just amazing no matter how often you drive it, and i drive it alot (as you can tell).
if you know what you are getting into, go for it. it is a great daily driver if you want your drive to be more visceral and exciting.

Mine is my only car, and I would not DD anything else! Other generally excellent cars feel so removed from the proceedings at hand. Since you're likewise in the south and have generally level roads, no problem.
To address some other points above, though it's noisy inside, my Bluetooth works just fine and the very few scrapes on the bottom of my front lip after almost 14,000 miles can only be seen by getting down on one's knees a few inches away. Get the '3 and start living!

I echo the posts above. Lift not necessary, Blue Tooth fine ~ just don't expect to use it @ 8500 rpms; although fun, SPP is fine too, exhaust is better. GTS is an x51 C2S w/a fat rear, great car but no gt3/RS.

I sold my 2008 M6 M/T last Oct. and ordered my new 2011 GT3. M6 was a lot of fun, and a great beast, but never tracked it and never really wanted to, so I got bored in less than a year. Sold it to a real Bimmer enthusiast, (R/L member) where it should belong. M6 was "second car" DD is 2010 Prius, and still is. So as a DD I can't say much about my GT3, becuase I don't fall into that category. I drive it 2 days during the week and most every weekend. Has the GMG x-pipe, so Bluetooth is worthless! Plan to do my first PCA event soon, as the 2K mile "break in" is just about there. Besides, if I don't get busy and start tracking this thing soon, it would be a waste.
My commute is about 2 miles one way, so as a DD, a GT3 would be fine in my world if it had to be.
In your case, it sounds like you have an ample stable to choose from. I let go of the M6 because I just couldn't get connected like I do with my GT3.

Thank you all for your insight. I believe I'm closer to pull the trigger...as the car is an amazing piece of engineering to drive. SPP is not what is should be but unliess listening to the news I doubt I'll be spoiling the exhaust note with a subpar sound system.
One more question, any info on when the next gen GT3 will be out in the market?

Question is, in that time, how much better/faster will the next GT3 be? And if the 918 coupe becomes a model in both street and motorsport platforms.....

Not sure why some folks consider a full interior porsche with license plates and warranty as a track toy only......
Compared to the days when 356 porsches were daily drivers the gt3 feels like a rolls royce..
Seriously though, there are better daily drivers out there. But a 997.2 3 can be dailyed if the owner is a true enthusist.

Went through the same questions in my mind before I bought my RS and am now 6 weeks into using it as a DD. I live in the UK where the weather can be poor and the two main issues are rain (=tyres), and salted roads in the winter. Nothing else is a problem - get a lifting kit, decent sound system, sat nav and you are laughing.
But do not, like I did, assume it to be a stealthy beast....
If you need the occasional 4 seater buy a crappy car. I say crappy because that is another reason not to use it and to drive the RS instead.
On no account garage the RS - it will make popping around the corner in something else too easy.
As you started the thread you have already convinced yourself and are looking for reassurance. You have got it.

I finally pulled the trigger today on a '10 Carrara White, with Front Axle Lift, Adaptive seats, and a bunch of good options.
Truly amazing machine. I'll see how it behaves as a DD...
