Porsche plans Ferrari 458 rival: UPDATED: CONFIRMED

I like it........ looks good, and I wouldnt be surprised if it handles like a Porsche as opposed to an R8 and will likely be an awesome car. I suppose the real question is how it fits in with the motorsports program.
It does rather look like what my Cayman S should've looked like.

I bet the GT3 will still do FIA GT3 and Grand-Am GT, GT Challenge, as well as the Carrera Cup series', and other small GT3 Cup races, but I think this car will take over the GT3 RSR for GT2 racing.

Well it sounds great on paper but I question the logic of producing a Porsche model that is slotted above the 911(special vehicles like CGT don't apply).
I love the choices in the $200 - 300K range. The Porsche Vs. F458 Vs. LP560 Vs. MP4.

Actually you will fit in a 430 no problem...I fit a little better in a 430 than my 997. I still can squeeze into your GT2 seats...I need them just a little wide so that my prosthetic socket fit down into the seat.

if its just a Porsche blinged and badged R8 then I dont see how it can be positioned 'above' the 911???
what am I missing here?
that would be the $149k sticker on the 5.2L ... Doh!

It really couldn't be a parts bin swap exercise with an R8/Gallardo -- even VW execs are smart enough to see that would make Porsche a laughing stock and risk permanently debasing the Porsche brand.
It really couldn't be an uber-Boxster (a Boxster with more power and real suspension instead of MacStruts) again because there's no stretching their "entry level" vehicle and convincing the media let alone the customer that the factory endorses an engine swap and 911 rear suspension geometry and bingo, a Boxster is now superior to the 911 in the line-up.
I think Porsche has put one card on the table and said they can build cars in painted CF. This "911 GT1" can be lighter than a 911 by virtue of a fully CF body. It could even be a CF monocoque, but that seems to be beyond Porsche at present. Still, we're talking about a car that's years away from market, so anything can change in the interim.
So: 2800lbs. 9A1 at say 450hp naturally aspirated, with PDK, probably 8spd by then. Skip the PASM and get back to conventional springs and dampers. Fixed head, conventional doors. Maybe get serious and have a fully integrated roll cage and six point harness provisions built into the car. Build it for a race series like a GT1 Cup. Get back to the roots of success in building real sports cars.

do you mean the 996 headlights and boxster headlights from the same era? I can definitely see Porsche using the R8/lambo core. It'll save them tons of money and they can charge more too.

If you remember the criticism of VW for making the Gallardo on the R8 and the permanent loss of face for the Lamborghini brand, well, I'm sure VW doesn't forget and now looks at their Lambo market and can't be pleased with trivial sales volume and still a niche product but without the cachet. The Gallardo is/was a mistake. Lamborghini should not be building dreary, unimaginative, boxy cars that are safe and comfortable. A real Lambo is one part ostentatious and one part fearsome. A Porsche is one part matter-of-fact, outright superior performance and handling and one part race winning heritage. If Porsche built the "hairdresser" Boxster with 911 suspension and engine and tried to position it above the 911, I don't think the brand would survive the consequences. They had their head handed to them with the 928 as a replacement or superior model to the 911. They've spent two decades making sure the 911 is never perceived as pandering or catering to nostalgic customers getting duped into buying an inferior car while the smart customers buy mid-engine configurations. Now is not the time to communicate to the market (and to competitors) that the 911 is put out to pasture or that Porsche racing will transition to a mid-engine vehicle.

1. easy way - get better tires than Toyos and you will be faster in T17, T1 and hairpin
2. get a 4.0 and both the scud and 458 are history.
3. get RAD to do another 8 sebring days and his ferrari will lose tranny, if not I will treat Rad to Chicane's

The 4.0 would be unbelievable! I need one.
4.0 on slicks is cheaper then driving Ferrari.
Rad's Fiat already started to fall apart the first weekend of Sebring, he only drove half the time (Sleeps late and is busy eating ice cream). Now he only dares to take it to Sebring for say 1 half day, a session or 2....
I'll buy him the apetizer
How's the GT3 sales and RS hunt going??

Peter, it is going slow all the way around! I just want my GT3 perfect before I depart from it! Plus I'm really busy at the office and with my daughters. I will get an RS soon enough! Hopefully by year end
