For some reason, i recall a while back in the forum that when North American zero option 997.1RS was compared to a North American zero option 997.2RS, the .2 was slightly heavier for some reason?

I remember there were differences in the the RoW cars, and North American versions that caused the problem when comparing numbers.

I have had a 6GT3 for over three years now, as my main track car. Along the way I had a 2007 GT3 (for about 6 months), a 2007 RS (for about three years), and now a 2011 RS.
The 6GT3 is great on the track. It feels light and it's easy to correct when things go out of shape.
The 7GT3 was probably the best street car of the bunch.
The 1RS was a joy to look at, and felt very special, but was not quite as sweet to drive on the street, and very similar to the 7GT3 on the track.
I have not driven the new RS on the track yet, but I expect it to be superb. In street driving what is evident is superb grip and very good turn in. The low gearing is great as you get to shift more...The sound track is amazing as well. With more than any of the other cars i get the feeling that I am one with car. kind of spooky. In my opinion it is by far the best GT3 so far, and is a keeper. But so is the 6GT3.
Bottom line - no wrong choices here. We can all feel blessed.

 

that's just about what i would say with regard to all above cars. i also have a .2GT3 for a short time.

7.2RS doesnt dances as well as 6. but it is faster, looks better and faster.
the 6 is a phenomenal car. it just needs a wider butt to look sexy.

 

I've had my .2 RS for about a week and can already tell it's significantly better than my .1 GT3. You can feel the extra low end torque and better gearing immediately. The car has better turn in and a more compliant ride. The PCM is even better (if you care about that stuff).

note: it's also my daily driver and lives in Central London they can handle everything...off on a surf trip tomorrow to Britany, France (roof rack and 2/3 surfboards on top!)

 

the US version, no option 2007 GT3 RS and 2010 GT3 RS are just 11Kg apart (24 lbs), with the lighter car being the newer RS at 3,116 lbs, as light as the US version 2004 996 GT3. The 2010 GT3 is a tad heavier at 3,160 lbs, and the heaviest of them all the 2007 GT3 at 3,185 lbs.

All these numbers with no fuel, add 111 lbs for a full tank of fuel (yes, the 2007 GT3 is almost 3,300 lbs before safety equipment, a pig in my opinion).

Add/Delete options and the weight goes up or down, PCCB, Li-Ion battery, full leather, radio delete, ac delete, rollbars on multiple flavors, harnesses, fire extinguisher, Carbon seats (standard in 2011 US-RS), navi, axle lift, etc.

If you don't believe it, put your car on electronic scales take picture of fuel gauge and confirm, it hurts.

My Fiat, 2,986 lbs with no fuel and all the other fluids topped, includes radio, navi, ipod link, bluetooth, sequential tranny, AC, a huge brick for a battery and real door handles.

The reality is that Pat Long in a 996 GT3 can run significantly faster times than anyone here in a .2 RS. Essentially, the later model cars are more refined to allow average Joe's to turn faster times with no real driving skill vs. prior generation cars. But really, all these cars are fast in the right hands. And fast is relative. To an inexperienced driver, their idea of fast, may be slow to another, more experienced driver.

Answer these questions and we may be able to help guide you more:
A.) What % will be driven on street vs. track. Do you plan on tracking? If so how many times a year?
B.) How much track driving experience do you have? What are your lap times at your local track? What car were those times in?
C.) Do you have a specific budget in mind?
D.) Can you explain the steps for taking a 90-degree turn (after long straight) properly at track speeds properly in a 911?
E.) Do you feel confident driving with no aides? Like TC and PSM?
F.) You pull up to a red light on the street and a guy in BMW M5 revs and wants to race. Do you blast him off the line and go for it? Or do you wave at him and pull away slowly?

today i drove a riviera blue 997.2 gt3
6 months ago i tested a 997.1 gt3
i found the gen 2 to have more mid range torque
and a better touchscreen pcm
my next car though will be a 997.1 gt3
i prefer the look of the 997.1 gt3
and the performance on a generation 1
is still mind blowing.

 

you won't be disappointed with any GT3

 

And that is the bottom line... "3"s are head and shoulders above the standard 911s... (I still think PDK is cheating on the track - everyone needs to learn the art of heel-n-toe!)

I purchased a used 07 RS.

Fantastic car. Sounds great, especially the noise the LWFW makes at idle.

The Gen 2 RS was just out of my budget. Of course it's the latest and greatest, but I think the Gen 1 is still confident and still a contender, side by side.
