What was base MSRP for the 2008 GT2? $191k? With options, easily $210K. So, that's about 50K less than the GT2RS. So, I'd say 25-30% premium for the GT3RS 4.0, then? no?
Price is, in the mind of the marketing types at Porsche, a matter of unit volume, not value or specification. In my not so humble, this is one of their more blatant failures in managing the brand value. Look at the GT2 RS for clues to predict the "exclusivity" premium that buyers will be asked to surrender. And look at the 3.6 RS to the 3.8 RS -- $123K went to $135K. The very least the 3.8 to 4.0 RS increment would be is $147K.

If you applied the 25% to the $135K 3.8 RS, you'd be at $168K before PCCBs, carbon fenders, lightweight battery or whatever other options constitute the important advances in this (still rumoured) 4.0 RS. That would suggest a "lightweight" optioned "stripper" would be $180K.
At what price point does the demand for the GT cars simply stop?
Porsche is apparently determined to find out.
I'm thinking these 997 prices make a compelling case for a 993 C4S with manual steering and manual brakes ... 2500lbs ... 350hp ... 9000 rpm red line ...

I don't recall the '08 and '09 GT2 price, but it wasn't well received and the GT2 has the $8K PCCBs as a mandatory option. If GT2 was $194K (I think) compared to the $245K for the GT2 RS, there's $50K or a 25% increase comprised of incremental spec and "exclusivity" of the numbered production.

Yep -- that would be part of getting the C4S down to 2500 lbs. Takes about an hour or three, deletes a bit over 100lbs, ideal DIY project to update the suspension geometry, put in a nose bracket for the transaxle, short shift, etc., RS steering rack. And now I'm curious about removing the power booster for the brakes ... : )
(yeah, I know, this is the 997 forum ...)

I like it !!!
500 HP bone stock, probably 530 Hp tuned with exhaust/ECU updates or same power as the mighty 997 GT2. Lightest of all the 996/997 GT cars, mid 2,900 lbs with no fuel, PCCB, Lithium battery, AC Delete, Radio Delete. More downforce, more power, less weight, for $168k, that's a killer deal.
Very likely this will be the last Meztger engine coming out, collectors will keep an eye on this GT3 RS 4.0, I expect a decent demand for this car.

Will be interesting to see when all the 997.2 tubs will be phased out to make way for the new 991 platform....
anybody know when we can expect to see the first 991 carrera?
