Default 2010GT3 RMS NEW TSB

I think I have good news for you !

It seems that Porsche tried to address the RMS issues in the 2010 cars and on.

Until today I thought that nothing had changed there due to the fact that the RMS used was same part number for 2010 gt3s and for older 997.1 GT3 cars, and also thought that we are just waiting for the first cars to start leaking at some point down the road, but apparently by reading this TSB it is clear that they did change something.

If that will work remains to be seen..

According to the new TI ( published 17/2/2011 #1359 1/11)

titled : GT3-II crankshaft sealing ring WITHOUT spacer ring

"From start of production for model year A/2010, no spacer ring is fitted on the crankshaft sealing ring on the flywheel side on GT3 engines due to changes to the crankcase. "

................................

Here is the same seal used part number 997 102 264 91 but without the spacer ring (part number 997 101 264 90) that still must be used in 997.1 /996 GT3s when repairing a RMS leak:

A: black-colored rubberized outer ring with integral sealing lip (crankcase side installation position)
B: gray-colored inner steel ring (transmission side installation position)
C: cardboard ring on inner steel ring.

Great news...I think. Hopefully Porsche has stepped up to address this issue. Thanks.

Having come from a 996 with well documented IMS/RMS issues, I can tell you the answer to that question - but - I think you already know...

It's good to know that there won't be any oil drips mixed into the coolant when the hose connections blow.

Well it took them a decade to silently redesign the crankcase.. for the coolant hose connections they might surprise us next year..or we may never find out that they fixed it.. : )
