F40, no contest. Its the only "old" car I truly desire to own and drive.

A Cayenne Turbo is probably faster and more reliable and as rewarding to drive as the old 959. What I heard is that was a great technical car for its time, but awful to drive.

I was on track with one 7 years ago. A real boat... a speedy boat... but not as cool as I'd hoped.

F40 is iconic and raw.

959 is just not desired, not special enough and now bettered in every way by a 997 Turbo.

Used prices reflect this, with F40s trading about 3x the price of 959s despite being made in 5x the numbers......

The F40 is only in the comparison as a nod of respect to the 959. Seriously, there's just no comparison. They're both giants and stand alone. To me, though I've accepted my life's lot as a 911 devotee and blind faithful, there is no question the F40 is the greater of the two. For whatever reason, the technological genius and rally winning dominance of the 959 doesn't win me over compared to the raw perfection of the F40.

No question the F430 outdoes the F40 in measurable performance. A 997 Turbo will probably turn quicker times than a 959 around the track. I'm falling asleep as I type for boredom at the thought of being in those anaemic, modern day sports cars.

As soon as the factory puts a team together and wins the Paris Dakar with a 997 Turbo, we can reconsider that comparison and the 997 wouldn't even have to place 1st and 2nd, just a finish would be impressive.

We could expand the modern day comparison and recognize the GT2 RS. It's been 20 years since the 959. The GT2 RS only reinforces the place of the 959.

Video and review are both 100% accurate. Both cars were extremely important to the evolution of the sports car, but I no longer yearn to have as I once. Comparing the 959 to a 996 x51 turbo that's only 5 years newer and you what was amazing changed to commonplace. The x51 has the same power, significantly better powerband, better response, a far improved 4wd system, better handling, better brakes and a climate control system that actually works. It is what followed these cars that has stood.the test of time and what I still yearn for: the Mclaren F1. It was the target of the Veyron and still looks impressive against even the new MP4-12C. Of course the F1 would have never existed had the 959 and F40 not come before it.

F40 just makes me salivate.... Another hardcore specimen I aspire to one day own, but for now, my RUF GT2 will give me that dream ownership of one LOL!!!!!
