Clubsport bar in sunroof car?
I have the clubsport bar in a 996 and am moving it to my 997.1 GT3. Both cars have a sunroof. In the 996 the sunroof is inoperable because it hits the bar as it retracts. A few quick questions...
- Are there different versions of the clubsport bar, one for sunroof cars and one for non-sunroof cars?
- If not, then is there a way to keep the sunroof operable with the clubsport bar? Do you have to shave off part of the footings?
- Anything else I should know? I'd like to be able to open the sunroof even with the bar in the car.

I installed the Clubsport rolbar in my 997.1 GT3 (with sunroof), the fit is very tight and later operation of the sunroof was not possible (opened only about halfway), but I never opened the sunroof anyway!!

Izzone,
Bar looks great in there and thanks for the pics. So you didn't have to shorten it to fit, but does your sunroof still work? Does it slide all the way back without hitting the top of the bar?
Gus F,
Did you shorten the bar or no? That issue sounds the same as in my 996.

Have installed a number of these in 997s with Sunroof. VERY tight. Some work, some dont. The bigger issue is that it WILL be rubbing on the headliner pretty bad. We normally take and inch and a half off the leg. Pretty simple really and then no issues and no damage for possible resale.

Thanks Viperbob. Sounds like you've got a lot of experience with them. Strange that some would work and some wouldn't. Just here there's one shortened bar that doesn't allow the sunroof to open (Gus F) and one that hasn't been shortened and the sunroof works (Izzone). Must come down to the install and I know I have a great guy here in the bay area with Tony at TC Design.

The ideal way to fix the roll bar is welding a set of plates with bolts facing up, on the inside, but due to limited room on the 997.1 GT3 I did it with the plates under the floor, yes I had to perforate the floor to accomplish this (this procedure is also much easier than to weld plates inside the car).
