Default New mod. Mooty is going to hate it :)

No, it doesn't make the car faster. And it won't help turn faster lap times.

However, it will make the ride to and from Sebring more pleasurable.

I really despised the factory PCM/Nav unit. It's horrible. No ipod, no Sat radio, a nav interface from the early 90's. And it sounded bad. In a nutshell, it sucked.

A friend of mine owns a custom car shop in Orlando (Ultimate Audio).

Ran it by there yesterday to jettison the crap factory head unit.

Came out great. I'm really pleased. We re-used the factory amplifier and speakers. The sound is significantly improved, the nav is amazing (Garmin powered), and it has Sirrius/Ipod/Dvd/etc. I bought a dash kit/harness specifically designed for the 997. I think it looks very factory. The antennas are hidden under the plastic in the wiper housing. The BT phone blows though. Not that I'm surprised. The car is just too noisy with the exhaust and R888 tires. Oh, and a reverse camera too. Love that!!!

LOL... Sacrilegious!

Actually I did the same with my last car. Some polyurethane tape between the head unit and the face plate will help hide that gap nicely. Beware though, with a bit of use (esp. track time) the assembly will loosen up and rattle like mad.

The gap isn't as big as it looks in the pic. That's more of an extreme close up. When seated in the car it's not noticeable. This pic is the equivalent of putting your face 4" from the screen

Actually, the cage I went with is quite solid and uses the factory lock in points. It was expensive, but should hold as well as the factory unit since its locking in at the same points. I hope...

Please report to the nearest Porsche dealer, return your GT3 then cab it over to Nissan ... Your GT-R is ready!

mod is great if you must have radio and the rest, oem is bad, I would do single din.
screen is fine
kenwood so and so
song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkOb7ReOv70 is bad.
but reverse camera in GT3 is ban!

Overall you get 7/10 for the effort and 2 more points for not buying gtr=9/10

It would be awesome if someone came out with a system that you could plug in and have real time data streaming through the screen like:

Lap Time
Oil temp
Water Temp
Pressure

Then that would be a system worth changing too.

(I know its called a motec/aim mxl), but something that would be good to someone thats not as crazy as us and looks more stock-ish

Opps... I must have stumbled onto the 997 GT3 forum - as I know none of the Cadillac Escalate parts like these fit the 996 GT3 version.

What's next a sunroof? Or maybe PSM?

Reverse cam is the best part! I can run it live while I'm at the track so those stinking vipers don't surprise me when them come up on my backside at warp factor 8

Kenwood is the only unit that uses Garmin. Pioneer has crappy nav and is buggy. Looked at the alpine but preferred the quality of the nav in the kenwood.
