Default ECU Upgrade. Anyone done it yet?

Looking at Softronic and Evoms. Wouldn't consider anything else at this point.

They both seem like good products. Any pros/cons to either product?

The only difference that is readily apparent to me is that Evoms requires the ECU be mailed to a dealer and the Softronic can be uploaded via the OBD port.

Coming out of supercharged 996, sometimes the 3 feels a little anemic at time. Not that 20hp is going to make a world of difference. It's not that expensive and if it doesn't hurt anything, why not? I have easy access to 93 octane at most every petrol station.

If I were going to do it I would go with the Evo flash over the softronic. You can also consider GIAC which I believe GMG carries.

Not so much a fan of giac. Had their tune on my SC'd 996. Had CEL's etc... Didn't get much in the way of support either.

Sticking with EVO or Softronic.

Had Softronics for my Cayman S (2007). There was a ton of power left on the table with that car, and an aftermarket exhaust plus softronics software and plenum upgrade made a decent difference. Am not sure how much Porsche leaves out of the GT3 (not much I guess).

Scott Slauson of Softronics is a PCA technical advisor, has worked with the Porsche factory and has a decent reputation.

Right now with the GT3 am happy with it stock, but am tempted to do the Sharkwerks exhaust bypass deal. Wouldnt mind getting the GT3 a wee bit louder.

I have the center muffler bypass now. Sounds great. Seems like there are some decent gains when combined with an ECU reprogram for a specific octane.

I have the Softronic flash. It makes enough of a difference to be noticeable, but it's not huge (not that you would expect it to be). The uploading process is easy and takes just a few minutes.

At least in California, these things are about to become a more expensive proposition for the vendor -- the government is imposing new tests which will focus on after-market mods (even if they don't fail smog, if the mod is not certified, the car doesn't pass emissions for registration.) This has NOTHING to do with emissions or environmental concerns, just revenue -- the mod vendor will be paying a fee to get the certification for their mod and here's the kicker ... the more cars reporting the certificate for that mod, the more it costs! Bastards.

EVOMSit with specific full cat-back muffler delete software and my weight reductions put my .1 RS at ~ 440 + at this point.

Of course ECU is easiest, but have you considered rack and pinion? Having a shorter final drive might resolve some of your "anemic feelings".

Last time I checked with Softronic, they were still working on the upgrade for the 3.8 GT3 engine. I had their SRP and ECU upgrade on my 2007 Boxster S and was very happy with the outcome. Thinking of doing the same for my GT3, it seems a little flat coming out of the corners. HP and TQ are fine but throttle responses seems a little slow, could be my driving skills that need a tune up.

Steering might help, but I think a shorter ring and pinion would be even better.

I think there's no escaping the 3100lb+ heft and the limited torque of a naturally aspirated engine. The easiest (and most enjoyable) answer is to go one gear shorter. If you're already in 2nd, you need to look at a wider line to create the longer path to exchange time for speed.

I think the shorter final ratio is the bee's knees. I'm keen to see someone with the 3.9 get a shorter diff -- I expect that would be a lot of fun.
