Probably an old topic but,
Found a dealer or two with open slots, can order a GT3 or an RS. Since the car is for some street driving and driving to and from the track for some trackday fun. Figure 5-10 trackdays and another 10-15 street days, Sadly live in the NE.

Car will have fairly minimal options when speced out the way i would do it a Gt3 comes in at about 124 k and a Rs 13k more. Either one is a bit of a stretch but, if one can stretch that far what is another 10% if it is really really worth it.

I have done the skip barber 3 day and 2 day advanced in formula cars as well as a number of trackdays in my M3 and a rented spec miate. So I reckon either GT3 will have perfdormance well beyond my ability.

Against the RS is that it looks pretty blatant meaning only tame street drives. On the other hand i have other street cars, so track performance is the priority and i8 like to keep cars sorta forever so an RS seems more rare and a keeper. But for someone relatively inexperienced is there really going to be a difference acertainable. Or is the Rs just that much more of a track weapopn and totaly worth it.

lower gearing alone would seal the deal for me

in the long run the RS will not depreciate as quickly because it is an "RS"

Most important was your statement "i like to keep cars sorta forever" - for that reason alone, go with the RS! Yes it's likely that most of us in this board can never exploit a regular GT3 to 100% of its potential on track, let alone an RS, but the RS is something special. It has emotional benefits along with plenty of mechanical benefits. For $13k I wouldn't think twice about going for the RS.

I test drove both recently and the RS is the clear winner for me. A lot has to do with the "aura" of the car but I really enjoyed driving the RS more... and that was just around town. Don't sell yourself short!

(And yeah I'm in the same boat with you and I'm going the RS route... For me the choice was new RS or lightly used regular GT3, so the price delta was larger and made it harder to "justify" the RS. But for me there was no question after I spent some time driving and ogling both).

How about a used 2007 or 2008 GT3 RS? You can save $25,000 on a new GT3 and $40,000 on a new RS. And its more rare than one of the newer mass produced models.

Ask yourself:
If you get a GT3, will you lust after the RS?
If you get the RS, will you lust after the GT3?
Also based on your statement that you keep your cars forever.
