Default Car quit briefly

I was driving in the city...30mph and the car quit for 3-5 seconds. Then it kicked back on. A "TC Failure" light stayed on. When I parked and restarted the car, the warning light was off. I never had the car quit. Anyone else?

Could this be a "sign" to simplify your life? Sell, sell, sell.

I had this happen to me in my Ferrari. Car shut down completely while driving in the neighborhood. Steering wheel locked. Luckily no one else was on the road. Didn't trip an error code so dealer couldn't find the problem. It really worried me. What if it happened while driving at speed on the highway? I sold the car soon after.

That's a new one. I've not heard of a 997 just losing the ignition and then reviving. Messages like "TC Failure" usually result from loss of voltage and those systems will attempt to reset at the next start. I have a 2010 GT3 RS, too. It has what appears to be a faulty ground strap to the battery, but I won't get the diagnosis (swapping the cables, swapping the battery, etc. etc.) until next week.

Presumably you didn't have the steering lock (that can only happen under normal circumstances when the key is removed) but it's still a risk if you were coincidentally traveling at speed through a turn and lost the power steering assist. I guess as long as the engine is still in gear and being turned by the wheels, it will attempt to fire up (as it did) and should be turning well enough to keep the steering pump and brake booster operational.

Anyway, sounds like an electrical gremlin. Maybe there's a code in there for the tech, otherwise unless there's a service bulletin, they won't have much to go on, but it will be interesting to hear what they find.

30 in 5th?....please! I was thinking that it was a bad ground cable and I was going to sniff around tomorrow. The road was a touch bumpy...so maybe that wiggled something loose. The TC failure light came on one other time, but the engine did not stall. Again, it was OK when I restarted the car.

I had simliar occurrences, first at the Glen and then at VIR. Why the bolt on the ground cable loosened to the battery, I can't explain. (Too much Bavarian Perrier water consumed at the Stuttgart production line?)

But once I tightened the bolt, the problem went away.

this has happened to me twice. Once at about 100 miles on the odometer and another at 700. It only happens on low rpms and at 1 or 2nd gear. I checked the battery cables and it seems everything is nice and tight. Any other ideas?

I had the TC fail light come on twice in my 997.2 RS on really bumpy /typical Manhattan (as smooth as downtown Falluja) roads. Car didn't shut down on me though. I turned off and restarted the car - no more issues. I do have the Lithium battery though...anyone else with the lightwieght battery have this issue?

The last time I inspected a drink vending machine on the factory floor, there were clear guidlines.
  • All purchases had to be made using one's canteen card.
  • No more than two beer purchases per day

Anybody having more than 2 beers is sent for counselling.

Particularly in Southern Germany and even more so in Bavaria, beer is treated as food rather than drink and largely treated as such by the general populace, employers and legislators.

As quality standards in the Auto Industry rose, there was less time for a beer during the day. Few guys bother with any beer during their shift, preferring to wait until they get to a biergarten.

Germany is different, at one stage I used to have my lunch in the Mess of the Federal Border Police (Bundesgrenzpolizei), it was set up as a pub complete with biergarten and (weather permitting) naked sunbathers.

This doesn't interfere with quality assurance, quite the opposite.

Having said that I can't imagine doing the same at the Department of Homeland Security!

This happened to me in my 2010 Ford Focus, back in my college days. Odd how that was a battery cable issue too. I would expect that from a Ford, not a fricken Porsche

The Germans aren't big into earthing......

ask a CE(E)

R+C
but they do worry about earthing cars, I've had battery problems (from new) with Porsche and Audi - complete replacement without the slightest hassle. I believe that the manufacturers consistently under specify the wiring looms.
