Breaking Centerlocking Wheels
I drive a 2010 GT3 RS, and I am trying to find out if anyone has an easier way to break those centerlocks. I use the precision instrument torque wrench, which you can remove the torque part and use the rest for a break bar, but it is difficult. Maybe it is just me, but it takes everything I got to break the lock loose. I usually torque to 370 or 390. Has anyone tried an impact wrench? Porsche Dealer says don't do it, but has anyone tried or does anyone have a suggestions. Also, I usually need another person to seat in the car to apply break pressure and hold the steering wheel to bust the front wheels. Suggestions?

I reviewed the previous post and they really don't answer my question. I know the tools out there, but it is still very difficult if you use the precision instrument torque wrench. I want to know if there is something else out there that is easier. Does the leverage of the 40 inch breaker bar make it easier than the precision instrument torque wrench? How about an air impact wrench? Help

to get an extra 2 feet of leverage, use a floor jack handle to slip over the top of the torque wrench sans the torque part. not enough leverage with just the 2 pieces, at least for me.

I'd get a breaker bar, 40" is good for me but bigger is better if you can find it. I got a tip here about a steering wheel/brake bar, I bought it and itt works great. I weigh about 170 and its not a problem at all.

Peter, I will eat more cheese. Do you use all three sections of the torque wrench?

It is bi directional, or bi something I forget, but I was told you don't hurt it by using it backwards, adding torque setting seems a safe bet. I just don't want another big heavy tool to lug around.
You still need your yard gnome to keep a foot on the brake and keep the steering wheel straight...

Peter,
When you say, use it backward, do you remove the torque section and turn it around so the torque adjustment faces inward? Or do you mean, keep the proper set up with the torque meter facing away from the car and just reverse the direction and break the centerlock?

there's a little flip switch at the head of the tool, flip it.
then remove the hand part (the part with ft/lb gauge)
now untorque the nut.

i use the entire torque wrench as well. just set it up to max 600ft lbs and set it on reverse. the fully assembled torque wrench is longer and more sturdy than the single piece 40" breaker bar from tooltopia meaning its easier to break free the centerlock nut. i place it at a -45 degree angle from vertical and push down versus pulling up the other way.
