GT3 RS Oil Smoke at start up
Once again I hope I am not asking a redundant question, but I have 1500 miles on my gt3-rs and I still am getting white smoke out the pipes at start up. The latest was tonight when I started the car after it sat for about 36 hours.
I have read thru most of the threads specifically: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...ht=gt3rs+break
Anyway I have not been overly aggressive with the car but I do run it thru all of the rpm ranges regularly.
I am assuming it means my rings have not seated yet. Does any one have experience on how many more miles before they seat in?

after 36 hours, getting white smoke on start is fine.
if you get it after 24 hours then i worry.
if my rested for more tahn a day, it gets white smoke when i fire it up the FIRST time that day.

I find that the main times I get a puff is when it has been started but not warmed up properly and subsequently started again days later... e.g. When I take it out of the garage to wash then put it back once done (starts fine- no smoke), on the following occasion that it starts I get a puff... presumably because all has been coated thoroughly with oil on the two previous starts but it hasn't had time to burn away as the engine is cold, thus collecting around the rings...
In any case puff presumably normal... its the machine gun rattle sound on start up once in a blue moon that still freaks me out a little...

i back the car into garage.
garage has a door opens into a foyer near kitchen.
i fire it up, close the door, but still smells.
after i enjoyed my RS smoked butter toast, i know it's time to get my drive in.
seriously, unless you get smoke more than once per day (subsequent starts), i wont worry too much.

just to put this in some perspective, during the recent BMW school at the ring we parked the cars for around 5 mins on the karussel, one in particular was a brand new, just delivered from the factory, 911 Targa 4S ...
Parked sideways on a 35-30% slope for 5 minutes, was enough to drain a bunch of oil into the downhill pistons ... the display of white smoke suggested someone had just been elected Pope!
while this is with a different engine than the GT3 ... just shows how the environment can impact this
effect ...
i.e its pretty natural ...

I suggest the following. Before you park the car and shut-off the engine for the day, drive the last few miles at a sedate pace, cooling the engine. When you park it, let it idle for a good couple of minutes and then shut it off. I bet the start-up smoke will be gone. This is common behavior for boxer engines for the last 50 years.

I love getting the "Death Rattle" on startup. Always scares the bejuzus out of me. I think they all smoke on start up after sitting for a while.
Now if it is mosquito fogging at WOT down the main straight, might want to go see your local mechanic...lol

If it does not smoke at start-up, it is not a GT3.

Checkout how much smoke this F1 engine has at start-up, feel better now?

Mine seems to smoke when it has sat for a couple of days or so. I always allow for a cool down before turning off the engine and will allow for an extended idle -actually elevated a little as the manual reads. Anyway, it will still smoke as it's inherent in the boxer design. No biggie. Any oil burned at start up is so minimal it doesn't even change the level reading.
