Default Anyone tried Yokahamas or Conti's for wet weather?...

It finally looks like I'll have a second set of wheels soon for my track tyres (MPSC or Corsas) and I'm now looking to slap some reasonably priced tyres on the car for day to day use or wet weather DE days... I know Bridgestone RE11s are popular amongst you guys but they are not as yet avaialble in OZ and RE050As actually cost as much as MPS2s here which is ridiculous considering they are much cheaper OS...

Has anyone tried Yokahama Advan sports or Conti CSC3s? If so, how did you find them? MPS2s are still a consideration but also double the price... Any opinions or feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Conti's are probably better than the Yoks I have seen some pretty impressive wet skidpad results from the One Lap of America, as good or better than PS2's.

For wet pavement, Toyo R1R the SCCA folks have found these tires to be as grippy in wet conditions as the Hoosier DOT Wet Racing tire.

For more wet grip, Kumho W710 (strictly rain). Even more wet grip, dedicated non street legal racing rain tires (Michelin rain lihe the GT3 Cup and ALMS folks, etc.)

Rad,

R1R's might be good except they don't come in big sizes and the OP also is looking for day to day and reasonable price in OZ.

Welcome to Florida the land of the afternoon Thundershower.

Thanks Peter, I've got CSC2s on my everyday car too and really happy with the wet weather grip levels... CSC3s should hopefully be an improvement... Not convinced with the tread pattern on Yoks, looks geared towards less noise rather than grip dispite softer compound...

Hey Rad, Toyo R1Rs are very limitedin size and Kuhmo W710s aren't available. I recall some guys saying that some Hancook evos were great but whilst I can get the fronts here, no rears beyond 285...

Thanx for the responses fellas, going to do some more research today...

I have the CSC3's on my 993 C4S and can report that they are awesome in the wet, especially heavy rain. Balanced up great and don't seem to flat spot after sitting for several weeks....

Thumbs up Conti

I'm using Conti 3s on my wet setup for the GT3 and it works really well. Good tread wear and they hold up quite well.
If you track the car you may like the R888s as the grip for a long time in the wet before they let go. But MSC is still a bit faster in my opinion but a bit scary in the wet...

Thanks for the further feedback fellas... Conti 3's are a bargin (relative to here) from tirerack... They look like a worthwhile compromise... Going to try to ship a set if freight is reasonable...Here, they cost morethan MPS2s-go figure... Otherwise gonna settle on MPS2s locally...

Default MPS2s it is... What pressures to run??

Decided to go with the MPS2s in the end... hoping to install next week... For those guys using these, what pressures do you run cold/hot???? (I've been running 28/30 cold on the Cups which come up to 31/33 during street use, 33/36 on the track-with some pressure adjustment)

I m running 32F / 36R for street driving
The tires hv soft sidewalls so prefer to pump higher. U can feel the flex when u try to corner a bit harder espe in the rear as the weight is all there.

Thanx TM, that sounds like a good starting point...
