I asked about the M3GTS 'cause at the Ring all BMW fans expect it to be the next M3CSL which used to compete head on with the GT3. The M3GTS runs on Pirelli Corsa so I guess 7.48 is cool: it probably equate to 7.40 with MPSC. Anyway although I hesitated between M3GTS and GT3RS I finally went for my first love and ordered a GT3RS. I am collecting it tomorrow and can't wait.........

Don't forget that the 458 comes with street tires and the GT3 and RS come with street-legal track tires. The more fair comparison will be with the 458 Stadale/Scuderia/Competizione/etc. which will be on track tires too (but will cost way more than any GT3).

Not positive if it's official, but every report that I've read, pre and post-Pebble Beach showing, have implied that's what it's getting. If you go on the configurator, though, it asks if you want a winter tire or a performance tire with forged wheel combo. I'm assuming the ones on the Pebble Beach car are the latter.

And then the most important distinction: how fast the car can go around the track vs. how fast YOU can take it around the track. Ring time discussions are for Sunday-drivers at the local coffee shop.

agree with serge [nice avatar pic btw!]
most of those ring times published were recorded on different dates with different drivers. hard to make direct comparisons. anyway, it's safe to say, a gt3 or rs will be quick enough for most people here, without getting sucked into ferrari mythology which is instilled into young boys all round the world, and carried around as mental baggage by the weak, for the rest of their adult lives as a stigma waiting to be scratched.

I agree, but it is still interesting to see what the car is capable of with a pro.

Also the traffic as well.
I think when the RS did 7.33 Rohl stated that he had some traffic which cost him some time.

I am a little disappointed with the results from the Italia test. A lot of cars are getting 7:38 recently, including: the GT-R, ZR1 and LFA. Still I am finding it a little disappointing as it is only 1 second faster than the F430 Scuderia. From everything I've read, the Italia is supposed to be a big improvement over the 430. I guess we are going to just have to wait until they come out with a 458 Scuderia to really find out what it is capable of.
I can confirm. I have a copy of the Supertest. Still not bad, same as what SA got for both the 997.1 GT3 and GT3 RS.

BTW, is anyone else disappointed with the new LFA like I am? I simply don't get it. An LFA is $375K, i.e. a Japanese car that costs substantially more than the Italian cars it is competing against as it doesn't even have better performance. It will get walked in a drag race by either a 599 or an Italia, yet costs more. It only matched the ring time of the Italia and lagged 5 seconds behind a 997.2 GT3 RS. Forget about a GT2 RS that would absolutely destroy it for over $100k less. In the recent SA 0-300-0 test, a stock 2010 GT3 out accelerated it up to 300 kph/186 mph (50.3 sec vs. 50.6 sec) and also out-braked it from that speed to a stop (6.8 sec vs. 7.0 sec). I keep looking at it and keep coming to the conclusion that it is not even a good looking car (vertical front end, vertical rear end and those odd scoops blocking the rear side windows). Parked next to an Italia, I would never even notice it. Based on its performance if they gave up the options to choose the color and material for every interior component, put a Toyota Supra badge on the back and was $75k, it might make sense.
