sport auto 458, gt3 , gt3 rs
Sport auto's review of 458 Italia..contains lap times for gt3/rs/gt2 @ hockenheim and Norschleife....was surprised the gt3 was faster around hockenheim by .1 second and 2 seconds slower at nordschleife. Thought the 458 would of killed the gt3. I dont look into lap times usually, cause i know i will never be close to them and there are so many factors...but id think the ferrari with 560hp vs the gt3 w/ 435 would of killed it. Obviously handling comes into play but it is the 458!
Also cool how the gt3rs is faster than the gt2 @ hockenheim and as quick at the ring...says a lot about its handling being down 80hp and a lot of trq! Also shows downforce ratings, and shows the Ferrari actually has front end lift??? Weird, cause I thought Ferrari was proud of the amount of downforce the car makes with no spoilers and the trick front spoilers.

Having that massive rear wing and wider front tires would help the GT3RS.
If you put a GT3 wing on the 458 and some more front aero, the 458 could probably do sub 7.20.

^ Funny thing is that Ferrari claim over 300kg of down force compared to the 170 odd from the RS (according to the recent comparison video by Chris Harris- he highly doudted their claims too)... So I doubt this is the problem...

I agree, that stat is B/S!
If that was the case, then F1 Cars are GT3 Cars wouldn't have rear wings.

I am wondering just how Ferrari can be so far out on their 300kg claim - the 31kg tested at 200kph equates to ~70kg at maximum speed.....

Well not really, the same test revealed the GT3RS downforce not quite as high as Porsche claim:
The Ferrari one is so far out that I wonder that maybe Ferrari test differently ? The downforce is supposed to come manily from the underbody airflow and rear diffuser - is it possible that works differently on the road to the Mercedes wind tunnel ?

I secretly keep hoping(Pretty sure it will) the MP4-12C will be very close to the GT2 RS 7:18 time or even better

As for the "revelation" that a lower-powered 911 puts down real world lap times equal to (or better than) a higher-powered <insert brand here> well, that was news circa 1964, since then, it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
There are those who look at one or more of "mid engine" or "push rod dampers" or horsepower or, in the case of McLaren, an impressive depth of engineering expertise and (what I think is) a brilliant machine overall and draw the conclusion that the 911 has been bettered. But the practical reality is the two fastest production road cars are set to be the GT3 RS and the forthcoming GT2 RS. The "3" is the apex of naturally aspirated cars on the road today. The "2" will be the apex predator of all cars on the road today ... : )

I doubt they ll go below 7:30 with any 100% street tyre.
