Default How many trackdays with your tyres?

Just wondering how many trackdays you guys do with 1 set of tyres, and ofcourse, which tyres that are.

In my case I did about 10.000 miles on my first set of Pirelli P Zero Corsa, including about 100 laps on the Nurburgring and 1.5 trackdays. Then I installed Michelin Pilot Cups, they did well for 1 trackday, and halfway the second I got enormous vibrations in the front when taking fast corners, a bit like you get when having understeer but much more agressive (as if there are tramlines crossing the track every 3 foot or so) and an enormeous loss in stability, so those tyres are shot too.

So, what tyres do you use? Anyone here running R888?

You should have no trouble getting 5-6 trackdays from Michilin Pilot sport Cups. I usually cord them in 9 or 10 days. Hoosiers seem to lose peak grip anter 3 days and cord in 4 or five days.

What you describe sounds like alignment or brake pad transfer to the rotors. Not the fault of tires.

This is my experience exactly. Of course, a lot depends on your speed, driving style, and which tracks you're running. Surface and the type of cornering has a lot of influence over how long before you're cording a tire.

Here in Texas TWS is pretty easy on tires, H2R is a killer.

I was surprised to discover that I spend a lot less on tires now that I switched to Hoosiers. My street tires last *forever* now that I'm not trying to pull double duty with them and it's a lot less painful buying Hoosiers all the time than it was buying PS2 Cups or Corsas all the time.

NT01s or R888s instead of Hoosiers would surely be cheaper still, but I'm too fond of the Hoosier grip and predictability.

888s are better than the specN cups in every department but noise.

Wow 100 laps in the ring and 10000 miles! How you did that?

FWIW - is your car aligned for track? I assume you mean the Corsa System tire which is one of the OEM tires for the Gt3 RS. Great tire but not as good as a real R-Compound.

Aside to John, I tried the R 888 and hated them. I mean hate! Horrible squirm and no more grip than the Corsa system tires. Maybe a bad set but I was seriously disappointed. Now using Hoosiers (R80/R100).

What's your source for the Hooters? (tirecrack is out of stock in 2010 RS sizes.)

The answer to the question is relative to the way you drive, the set up of your car and the tires itself.

If you really push the car at the track and take good care of the tires, then I think you can get between 16 - 20 heat cycles out of most tires (I'm talking about regular track day sessions), less if the tires are abuse or damaged with rough driving. Lets remember that smooth driving will also help in providing more consistent traction at any point during the life cycle of the tire, giving the driver the chance or ability to get the most out of a tire. I'm still trying to get there, in my case i "feel" that my tires are giving up traction at about 13-14 heat cycles (hoosiers R6).

Agreed. Practically impossible. Maybe with zero camber, no acceleration or braking.

about 18 heat cycles on R6 and the last few cycles are not in the same league as the earlier cycles...

10000 miles on a set of track tires... that is unreal.

My MPSC rears lasted 4000 miles on the rears for street driving.

LOL

It's a P Zero Corsa, the OEM tyre on my car. Not the P Zero Corsa R (which is not sold where I live). And there are quite a lot of highway miles too (driving to the Nurburgring is a 200 mile trip, and then 200 miles back in the evening )

Maybe the age of my Cups played a role in the way they went? I discovered my rears are 5306 and the fronts 2707. Not what one would call recent tyres ....

This is how the corsa's looked after 10K miles

There are no issues with the brakes, we checked those, also removed the front wheels to see if there were any other issues. None found.

If it were the brakes I should feel it when braking too (been through the "brakediscs cooked" once before so I know what it feels like).

I ll get a pic of my Cups and post them here.

Seems that you won't be able to do 100 laps in the ring with them.
