Default gt3 3,9L?

I drove my MK II 6GT3 4 years. I did same mods such R&P, LWF, KWS Manthey suspension etc...and I think about next step

I really consider making 3,9L (450-480PS) but not sure where. Do this in my 6GT3 or in 7GT3RS MKI . Some people say that 996 is lighter and can be faster.

What are your opinions?

Thanks
Martin

the economical way is do it to the 6.

but if you really want to spoil yourself, then 997 3.9.

a proper built 6 and proper built 7 can run with each other all day long however.

The 7 comes with center exit exhaust system and bumper which is really easy to upgrade along with a few other nic nacs that are mainly creature comforts over the 6....

Since you've already got the car, it's no contest. If you didn't have a car, given the price crunch on the 997.1 GT3, it's much less of a premium and you should get most of that money back out at the end of the exercise.

Of course, everything's more expensive with the 7 and the risk of a total loss is a higher number in play.

In simple terms, the "ideal" starting point for a 3.9 is either a 6 or a 7 where someone has already done the full weld-in cage, safety gear, suspension and brakes, got the thing fully sorted and it's just thirsting for the 3.9 to go in. Given the speeds a 3.9 can achieve on the track, I'd be looking for the very best safety gear and precautions (fuel lines, cell, fire systems ... ejector seat if you can get one ...) If your budget is "just barely get the engine in, do everything else piecemeal" then I'd say it's a mistake. If you can pencil out a budget to build the car with say $25K (minus whatever you've already got in the car, without cutting any corners on a serious full cage) then I think the project can make "sense" (that is, 'sense' as used in the context of utter madness.)

As I think about my own 3.9 daydreams again, a straight 996 pro race car (Grand Am or even Cup) with a dead engine or even a dead trans too, could well make for an awesome result and some shenanigans with a donor car write-off GT3 could result in a street legal VIN and engine ... : ) ... as I said ... "daydreams" ... : )

Martin, seems like no brainer to have Manthey do the work for you. then, its matter of choice between 3.9 and 4.0. :-D

the 7 has one advantage over 6, wider rear boody. Its allowes put wider tires to get more grip. But, if its possible to get the same number of ps, more reasonable seems to keep 6.

Do anyone has same experience with problems of 3,9l gt3 such as overheating etc?
We all know that: gt3 rs 1 needs
0-100 4,2 sec
0-160 8,5
0-200 13,,,
gt3 rs II
0-100 4,0
0-160 8,1
0-200 12,2

do you have some dates of 6 conversion? especially lap times...

cheers

I have a 3.9 Manthey conversion on my 997 GT3. The engine conversion is complete, and the ECU has been updated. My car is waiting for the Manthey Headers/Cats and Carbon Airbox, and they are en route. I have not had any over-heating problems, even in stop and go traffic in Dallas in 105 F (about 40 C) temperature. I ran it at the track for a couple of 30 minute sessions in scorching heat, and there were no issues.

The car feels very strong, with noticeably more pull through all the gears. Even without the Headers/Cats and Airbox, I am very happy with the conversion, but I think the car will be even better once they are installed. I will give you a full report in about two weeks, and I will try to run it side by side against a 997.2 GT3 and 997.2 GT3 RS.

MM 3,9gt3

I m looking forward for seeing the dates. I m 100% sure I ll do this but not sure where.
How many ps/trq do you have now? and how many do you expect after headers? I discused with motorsport lads and they say that good headers give obout 10-20 ps!!!

The other option is to wait for one to come available with the 3.9l already done. Remember that you will lose your shirt if you do this upgrade and ever sell the car. We had a Rennlister who did this to his 07 and had a terrible time trying to sell his car in the $80k's. Otherwise if you do it, be committed to keep it.
