i think we probably arguing on semantics.
we ALL speed. i am over the speed limit in 2nd gear, albeit a little over.
but we know the difference b/n speeding and "reckless driving". i get on the clover leaves above speed limit. but i dont do 50mph in school zone, or try to pass a parked school bus with red light blinking. or take your apex on a turn or ....
this guy is over his head, lost his mind....

Exactly.
That's why generalizations and aphorisms don't help when facing such a topic.
By respecting yourself and others around you and by using common sense all aspects of driving can be enjoyed rather safely, even some that are considered by law or purely by their name illegal and dangerous.
To judge an incident you have to have all the facts available. That is what my posts were all about.

What a cult film......
Due to the content of the film it has become somewhat infamous for rumors surrounding the making of it and its exposition.
Upon release it was not known who was driving the car and rumors circulated that it was either an unnamed F1 racer, a taxi driver or Lelouch himself.
The biggest rumor surrounding the film however, is that due to the illegal nature that had to be undertaken in order for the movie to be filmed, the director Claude Lelouch was arrested upon the first screening. It is unknown whether this is true

Link to the interview of Rich Symons, who picked up the distribution rights to the film and was able to re-release the film onto DVD. In his interview he tells the story behind it.

As a car nut tourist visiting Paris for work in the early 90's, I was shown how to retrace this route on a moped -- in about the same 9 minutes give or take bravery to keep up with the manic traffic.

Why every time, the time for an exciting race must be under the 8 minute barrier? So we call this one ala ring ”bridge to girl” in 7.53!
Nice link, I have some pictures of his Mercedes and Ferrari together with a black Citroen DS somewhere in my hard disk.
Here is the interview of Claude in French http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHn5Q15kaIA
among other things he says:
The film shows an eight-minute drive through Paris at 5.30 AM in August from Porte Dauphine to Montmartre in a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.
The soundtrack edited with the sound from a Ferrari 275GT
On the second straight (starting at 45 sec) he hits “deux cents normalement” that is 200kph – normally!!
When asked why he drove a Mercedes and not a sports car to make the drive he responses “specifically for the suspension – to give a more fluid ride/image”.
When asked about the rumor that a professional driver drove the car Claude Lelouch laughs and says “no it was me”.

John, thanks for posting this. A deffinate addition to my culture.
I had heard Jay Leno make a reference to this in his SLS show but had no clue.
