I posted this on 997 forum but for some of you that thinking of going to ps2 for street use the newer version for them is not ps3 but called supersport. standard fittment on the 599 GT0 and Mercedes Benz SLS AMG soon availiable in N-spec GT3 sizes according to my source and comply with the new 2010 tyre DAO law.
Also tyres will be 10% lighter than the ps2.

Probably after 2012 apart from the aromatic oils they ll have to comply with aquaplanning minimum resistance that for example the 2010RS cups no way would pass.
But maybe they ll find a loop. Don't know.

New legislation on tyre labelling and accompanying minimum standards to be introduced simultaneously in November 2012 will effectively end the production of road-legal trackday tyres. Tyres likely to be axed include the Dunlop Direzza, Toyo 888 (currently available on the Renaultsport Mégane R26.R), Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (Porsche GT3 and GT2) and Avon ACB10 (Caterham), along with a host of others.
The aim of the new regulations is to both raise all-round performance standards and to give buyers a greater understanding of the performance and environmental impact of each particular tyre before purchase. All road-legal tyres will have to display rating figures for rolling resistance (fuel efficiency), external noise and wet grip, and while the rating system and minimum levels have yet to be set, it is unlikely that track-biased tyres will be able to pass on all counts.
Tyre manufacturers are currently lobbying the European Parliament, but it will be very difficult for them to make a successful argument for tyres that allow drivers to corner faster in the dry but which offer a significantly lower level of performance the moment the surface becomes damp.
It is expected that trackday tyres will fall foul of the other parameters too, so their demise is something their manufacturers are already preparing for. James Bailey, Dunlop’s PR chief, believes it highly unlikely that trackday tyres will continue in their current form, although the company’s official position is that these regulations are positive as they will also remove poor performing cheap road tyres from the market. In its own braking tests the difference between the best and worst tyres fitted to a Mondeo stopping from 50mph on a wet surface was as much as five car lengths…
Porsche feels it’s too early to comment and that at this stage it is still a matter for the tyre companies. Once the regulations have been set, the German car maker will still request an appropriate level of performance from Michelin for its top models.
So what does the future hold? There will still be high-performance tyres made from a race-style compound though they are likely to have regular road-car tread patterns. However, they won’t be as fast or responsive as the current crop of trackday tyres, and for those of us who enjoy the extra performance and challenge presented by this specialist rubber that’s a real shame. "
I would pick the 100 to 1000 miles option. : )

Smuggling from where? US/Canada will follow.
Stock up works for maximum 5 years.
When I first heard about this I was pissed off cause I don't trailer so a semi slick with a decent rain ability like the 888s was the one for me.
But lately driving my car only on the street with PS2s I am changing my mind, I had forgot how nice it is not to fear of dying in every blind turn with standing water behind and I think a good new generation street tyre better than PS2 safe even in heavy rain is the way to go if you street at all and heat cycle proof R slicks for track.
All other are a compromize.
Only problem with this is that the suspension of the cars is set for only one of them.
Or maybe they can ditch the PASM and offer quality adjustable suspension with a few presets and throw a second pair of springs in the trank. No? : )

Just had a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires fitted to my GT3 RS. (I lent my car to Michelin for photo shooting during SEMA: look for a blue RS and possibly my Silver CGT in future ads, both filmed at Spring Mountain Motorsports ).
I did a few laps on the PSS's - fwiw - grip levels were close to MPSCs in the dry, and are far better than PS2s. The PSSs are pretty meaty, moreso than the MPSCs and PS2s, so looks like a great tire for damp and wet days.
I believe these tires will be officially announced/released in Dubai in the coming weeks.
Press Release From another forum:
2,396 exceptional new MICHELIN tyres for the equally exceptional FERRARI 599 GTO
MICHELIN partnered with the Italian sports car manufacturer to co-develop these unique tyres in a record time of just 18 months. To enable the FERRARI 599 GTO to achieve its ful performancel potential, the tyres had to strike a balance, delivering optimal track handling and superior safety.
The extra-wide tyres come in different sizes: 285/30 ZR20 for the front and 315/35 ZR20 for the rear. Despite the generous dimensions, they are exceptionally light, with the front tyre weighing just 10kgs and the rear 15kgs. This means a weight saving of up to 10% compared to other tyres of similar dimensions. MICHELIN's lighter tyres deliver two benefits:
- they reduce unsprung weight which in turn improves handling
- they help to reduce fuel consumption and thus carbon emissions. The MICHELIN tyres designed for the FERRARI 599 GTO have up to 20% better rolling resistance than other similar tyres, enabling a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 7 grammes per kilometer.
MICHELIN engineers developed innovative rubber compounds that ensure safe, precise handling in all conditions even when the tyres are delivering 670 horsepower from the 6-litre V12 engine. Their unique tread comprises three different compounds: a track-type compound on the outer shoulder to withstand the extreme pressure of circuit driving, a compound at the centre of the tread especially designed for superior performance at very high speeds, and an inner shoulder compound designed in combination with the tyre construction to maximize the amount of rubber in contact with the road for surer road-holding.
MICHELIN and FERRARI development engineers and test drivers worked closely together on different racetracks, in particular at Fiorano and Nardò in Italy, to validate the tyres’ performance balance which matches the chassis characteristics of the new FERRARI GTO, Ferrari’s fastest ever road car.
For the Porsche dudes, there won't be any N-Spec PS3's. I believe the N-Specs will be in this new Pilot Super Sport pattern.
I'm also guessing but the weight savings could be borrowed technology from MICHELIN's 2 Wheel Division. Why? Because the all new MICHELIN Power Pure has revolutionary Light Tyre Technology using advanced materials like Kevlar in its construction. Kevlar is a synthetic fibre which is 5 times stronger than steel, weight for weight.

Hi Larry - if you can confirm availability of the new MSS tyre for the new 997.2 GT3RS that would be brilliant. I am looking for a replacement for the current michelins pilot sports cup+ soon. TIA
