Pirelli PZero Trofeo

So it seems that for now 996GT2 and GT3 owners with 315/30/18 are stuck with the toyos etc.
I dont like that I hope they ll expand the range.
Real cups stoped the 315, everybody soon will stop current productions and they ll start the new age track tyres but I am afraid they ll forget the 18" and focus on the 19.
Bummer

and a sreenshot.
It looks that the time frame for compliance is relevant to the width of the tyres probably giving time to car manufactures and tyre companies to change production.
I am very curious how the new age track tyres perform vs known tyres such as cups 888s and hoos for our us friends.
They are the first together with the Nspec cups (which I dont like at all).
Also I am afraid as posted before that they want produce them in uncommon sizes such as 315/18 and also that for 997 guys they will be produced but will be very similar to the Nspec tyres you use now.
So if toyo stops the 888 and yokohama the A048 and the rest their tyres michelin stoped the real cups then you ll be stuck with semi track tyres like the Nspecs and the older cars with maybe standard sizes like 295 and thats it.

Mike: I think the 888s will be quicker when dry at least if you think that the trofeos are like the nspec cups..

Also Michelin says that the slicks used on the 24h with the stock rs are the new generation slicks free of oils and last January Pirelli’s racing tyres won Daytona with their new generation slicks.
That means that they can still produce decent tyres for racing but probably wont bring that to the track tyres because they will have to follow manufactures desire for safer track tyres when wet. N spec bmw spec audi spec etc etc. So probably for cost they wont make two series one real and one good for wet and we are stuck.
I predict we will return 20 years ago before the track day boom when if you visited the track you tried to locate a used set of slicks to go racing and then put your road tyres to go home.
John
edit or I ll have to buy a trailer and become a posuer too.

+1 on the Trofeo vs. R888 question. The price points are within 20% of one another (here in HKG at least).
I've been running Corsa System mostly and wouldn't mind having some extra grip (who wouldn't!), even if that comes at the expense of increased wear.

1. Tyre manufactures are pressed to produce new age tyres free of aromatic oils tyres.
There was a concern that this would have negative impact on the dry and wet grip characteristics of the tyres as stated by eu faq in my previously attached pdf.
But newer studies like the one I attach prove that the new oils will be as good as the old ones. (*attachement contains test conclusion at the end with red fonts and the copyright.)
2. So big tyre manufactures will bring to the market new tyres and new track tyres compliant with the new law.
But because these track tyres are now designed together with the car manufacturesrs that use them for first installement on their cars like porsche bmw etc. they are designed with maximized wet charecteristics like the new Nspec cups and average dry charecteristics for dry track use compared to the old school non N cups or 888s or corsas etc.
Also because now most of these cars come with 19" tyres the range is limited for us that still use 18s.
3. If smaller tyre manufactures fill this gap remains to be seen but for sure there will be a gap in the next 2-3 years.
And if on 1st Jan. 2011 they stop selling the 888s in Europe as is stipulated what will I put on my car I dont know. Already here in Europe people that drive to the track with GT2s using 315 after the end of production of michelin cups are left to choose between 888s and yokohamas or go down a size and use 295 and buy one of the newer tyres.

fyi, I have been communicating w/ one of Pirelli's NA Mgr's., and he shared a 7/16/10 email from Pirelli HQ that stated the 245/35-19 for the 997.2 RS will be avail in the U.S. in August. The rear tire is already in stock.

I was going to say we could buy them over here (if they are available) and ship them over ...
