Default GT2 RS in EVO, CAR

Chris Harris drives the new GT2 RS for EVO's cover story: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...rs_review.html

Then, George Kacher does the same for CAR: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Magazin...azine-out-now/

More to follow I'm sure (Autocar can't be more than a few hours to post).

Strange that the spec is 620bhp, but the UK mags (which should understand bhp) quote 611bhp. I wonder if the actual spec is 611 HP. Maybe it's the less dramatic 455 kW?

And I tend to agree that the world is not demanding 500 of the GT2 RS -- the 300 number would assure the value of the car is permanent.

As for the specifications slipping, I'm afraid we just saw the nose of the camel in the tent. This does not bode well for the USA would-be GT2 RS buyer:

"
Those front wings are new for this car. Instead of the GT3 RS’s ugly extensions, they’re one-piece items, albeit an optional one. It’s very expensive and doesn’t sound as good as the GT3 RS, and they should be making 300, not 500.
"

In other words, the USA market already misses out on:
shell seats
cage and harnesses
clubsport fire bottle
side plastic windows
rear plastic window
And now we here that the one-piece wide front quarter panels are "optional."

What else will be optional at US$245K?

One thing this review makes clear just as it tries to cloud the issue: the 2010 Turbo S (standard with PDK) at 550hp is no doubt a faster car in the hands of all but the elite few drivers.

I think the UK rating is in "BHP" which translates similarly to "SAE NET" ratings. 620 PS DIN/455KW/611 BHP...........same but different.

I've heard this option is $6K!

I think the GT3RS had the same kind of difference in quoted number. Because of what you said.

Get out of here camel!

The carbon fenders are pricey, sounds about right.

I have seen two stateside (USA) numbers: 135 and 60. Take your pick. Also my understanding all have buyers. Some slots alledgedly available for $75k over.

Is this the 000/500 car? Which suggest there will actually be 501 cars total?

I wonder what power the car would produce if they were measuring using SAE Gross, US not British(!)?

Preuninger's personal steed doesn't count -- that's not a customer car, that's The Creator's car. : )

Right. SAE or SI (kW) would be appreciated.

I probably shouldn't mention the two in the same breath, but the Corvette SAE numbers are the most impressive I've seen (a measly 505 SAE HP from the Z06 and an inevitable GT2 comparison to come from the ZR1 at 638 SAE HP ... for $100K ... with wagon-wheel sized ceramic rotors ... )

I was offered the first GT2 in LA for 50k over....I passed because I had a 997TT cab and a GT3RS and it seemed ridiculous to pay 255k for a GT2! The GT2RS is going to depreciate as fast if not faster than the GT2!!! The GT2's have always been overpriced and the GT2RS pricing is ridiculous.

I got offered a car for I assume @ MSRP. I didn't ask, but since my RS was sold to me at MSRP, I figured the GT2RS would be the same. At $245K and likely $260K+ out the door, it was beyond what I want to spend.

Surely I am nuts, but except for the lighter bits like the fender and the hood, I prefer the 3RS better.

Even for the same money. Slower for sure, but I did not get an RS for laptimes, I could have done better with a Viper.

At least I won't have to paint the fenders and hood, I'll just wrap them

This sounds entirely wrong. Based on what I'm being told direct from PCNA, the allocation process is under way, but far from concluded and any notion of a dealer being able to offer the "first" of any Porsche deliver in an area like LA with perhaps a dozen Porsche dealers is nonsense. And gouging at this early stage is just a fantasy in the minds of short term sales types.
