Nothing to fear my friends, and everything to do with insurance as a business owner. It's a longer story but related to how dealerships operate, where I have to legally list vehicles carried under certain insurance policies. I was actually curious when I'd get 'spotted' by the community so am glad you're paying attention. My 3RS will be listed similarly soon.

so your saying someday if I’m lucky enough to have a million dollars in agreed value cars I have to get a dealers license to avoid $10k a year in insurance… sounds like I need to Google

I'd say to think of it more like an expensive perk of having your own business (which is also expensive in my case). And there is no avoiding to pay for insurance, it's just a different type of policy.

Oh man, my heart sank when I first saw the link to that 7-2 advertised. Phew! (Steve, you know you need to save it for me...I only need about three more years!).

Should be interesting to see what this one does. Seems like market on these is cooling and the car market as a whole.

Looks like that new BaT 997.1 GT2 has the real Tequipment Carbon Fiber RS Fender Set installed (and not mentioned in the ad copy). Tasty!

Watching this new BAT auction closely. Not because I'm ready to buy right now, but rather because it should provide a great snapshot of the "upper" end of the gt2 market given it is a BAT auction (which usually brings the most $$$) featuring a car with low miles, buckets, and some other goodies!

I'm less confident it will provide a clear "upper range" snapshot due to the following factors:

1. Modifications are in play (including the aforementioned fenders and an exhaust). This one may have been tuned too, but that isn't disclosed
2. DME scan isn't great, although not terribly bad. It has some in Range 5, and the most recent Range 4 was just incurred in the last operating hour
3. Seats and tail lights aren't correct per original build spec, meaning not original to the car
4. Mileage is indeed very good, but not collector grade low
5. No paint meter results (as of yet)

Let's see how it goes. I am not going to be posting this stuff over on BaT as I want them to get a strong result as much as any 997.1 GT2 owner likely would.

Id love to be wrong, but I think I have to agree with Steve in that I don’t expect this to be a high water mark sale either.

With the all else it has, I think it’s highly doubtful it hasn't been tuned. Nothing wrong with a proper tune as long it was done by a reputable tuner, but the fact that nothing has been mentioned in this regard is somewhat suspect, given the other modifications, none of which add any market value, and in fact I think detract.

As for the DME, realistically nobody should be afraid of a few range 5’s on the turbo cars but it’s never good (or certainly at least off-putting) when it’s recent.

Lack of paint meter readings coupled with the presence of the carbon fenders raises obvious suspicion in my mind at least. caveat emptor.

Seats (sofas vs buckets) have not seemed to make any statistical difference in market value last couple of years.

It will be interesting to watch and GLWA to the seller.

That DME report is pretty bad, imo. Range 1 is completely maxed out, so we don't know how many there really are. Range 2 has more ignitions than I had range 1s with 2.5x the mileage and I had the engine rebuilt out of caution. I'd love a strong comp for 997.1 GT2s, but I don't think this is it.

I kind of feel bad for the seller already. Looks like the comments are really taking a turn against this car. It's always a possibility on BaT of course, but I suspect it won't be something that is recoverable.

That's partly my fault, but I think others have noticed the poor quality of the ad and the clues this car is likely a good but not great example, despite the mileage.

Also concerning is the fact it just had a Range 4 over rev 1.2 operating hrs ago.

What an opportunity…I might bid, no way I’d pass up a 10k mile 650 HP Sharkwerks 4.1
