Bravo to the RS? You bet! Between it's finishing spot and the Hybrid's pace through most of the race, I'd say Porsche did pretty good.

i don't think its embarrassing. its racing. **** happens. if the bimmer didn't shunt right in front of Manthey #1 it would have been same result as last 3 years. The hybrid did extremely well for being a prototype. The street RS performance made me very proud to soon be an owner of one.
Chris Harris' twit after the event.
harrismonkey
13th overall in a street car. Beyond wildest dreams. GT3 RS really is a bit special. Off to get very drunk with a load of happy Germans.

Mike, as noted Sabine's team didn't end up doing so well. Mechanical problems took them out of the top 10 which they were running for a long time through the night/morning.
I think maybe a bit embarrassing or rather big let down for Porsche Manthey because of how much that team is factory backed and with five cars and not one Top 10 finish is a huge kick in the nuts. Yes it's all part of the risk in running a 24 hour race. I'm glad they managed to salvage what they could for the Hybrid. I just hope that next years edition will bring as many factory backed teams/drivers and top manufactures as this years race did. Audi, Ferrari (Le Mans entry as well), BMW, Porsche that's a good bit of participants right there.

i don't think its embarrassing. its racing. **** happens. if the bimmer didn't shunt right in front of Manthey #1 it would have been same result as last 3 years. The hybrid did extremely well for being a prototype. The street RS performance made me very proud to soon be an owner of one.
Chris Harris' twit after the event.

13th overall in a street car. Beyond wildest dreams. GT3 RS really is a bit special. Off to get very drunk with a load of happy Germans.

Keep in mind that the street GT3 RS is rated at 450Hp, same power as most ALMS GT2 cars. It was loaded with slicks (Michelin slicks from the SuperCup series), PCCB were removed and substituted with steel rotors, full cage (stiffer car), re-programmed ABS, stiffer springs, most likely matching shocks for those springs.
Street car engine, transmission, brakes, aero. Unfortunately, the fastest race lap was a 9:14, around 13 secs slower to what Walter Rohrl did last month in the 4 hours race with this same car. Obviously, traffic is an issue in the 24hr race (more entrants), but still far off the pace.
13th overall in a street car is very remarkable. It is also a true statement about the solid reliability of this powertrain, while Cups, RSR, Hybrid were breaking and retiring left and right, this car made it. Porsche should consult Ferrari and BMW about reliability on high performance race cars (j/k).
By the way, feel free to congratule Leh Keen over at the Race forum. He was one of the Ferrari F430 drivers that made it to 2nd place overall, the only other car finishing in the lead lap, and just a week after winning One Lap of America in a 996 GT2.

2010 Nurburgring 24-hour – Chris Harris comment...
“CHRIS HARRIS: REFLECTING ON THE N24 - THE GT3 RS'S FINEST HOUR”
(18 May 2010)
Not having ever taken Acid, I’m not quite sure if my current state-of-mind can be likened to coming down from a trip, but it must be close.

I’m at that junction where Euphoria subsides and the blues begin. There’s now a void where last week an all-consuming project controlled everything.
That’s the strange thing about motorsport: it’s so tightly contained - both temporally and geographically – and the sport itself is so ubiquitous that today’s victory is, for anyone not directly connected with it, yesterday’s vague memory.
I went to the paddock yesterday morning to collect something and it was already mostly deserted. For someone who never wanted Sunday 16th May 2010 to end, it looked too bare; too empty. Twelve hours earlier it was the centre of my universe; swollen, spilling-over with people and machinery. It’s the most exciting paddock in the world – as befits the best race in the world.
Of course you’re going to get a sizeable story in EVO soon, and a video too, so now isn’t the time to drop into minute detail of the event. But I’m just here wondering if my understanding of motorsport might just have altered over the past week.
A few hours before we crossed the line in the Eiffel, Mark Webber won the Monaco Grand Prix – and he deserved the victory. But he did it in a machine that doesn’t look like a car, in a team whose real business is energy drinks, powered by an engine made by a French car company whose everyday wares couldn’t be further removed from Formula One.
Manufacturer Motorsport exists to sell cars – whether by increased exposure or engineering development – and I’m still not convinced, for example, that Mercedes sells any more cars because it is entered into the F1 championship.
Perhaps Porsche won’t sell any more 911s on the back of this past weekend – who knows? But as a demonstration of what works racing should be about - race on Sunday; sell on Monday – it was stunning. More meaningful for me as a car enthusiast than the strange world of double-diffusers, or using the back of your left hand to cover a vent that stalls a rear wing. Perhaps Fduct is actually a metaphor for the state of the sport?
Porsche drove a street car to the world’s toughest race, vastly exceeded any expectations over 150 hard laps of the Nordschleife, and then drove it home again.
It was many things to many people: special, notable, interesting, emotional, testing and, at times, scary. But most of all, it was tangible.
