Default GT2 key/switch paroblem

I have done a search and have not seen this particular problem. Came back from Thunderhill and changed out the front brake pads. Then moved my wife's Audi to go out and bed the brakes. Got in the GT2(2008) and turned the key and nothing happened. Pulled out the key and it was the Audi key. Now the Porsche key will not go in the slot no matter how many times I try and how hard I push. So the car will not start and I can't unlock the steering wheel. Is my only bet to have it towed to the dealer?

i had a smilar incident with a warning light "Steering wheel locked" i left the car for a while then managed to unlock the steering wheel by trying to turn the wheel and the key at the the same time..

I think you you should try to reset the car first by unplugging the battery and leave it for a while then try again..

It might have went into a saftey mode fter the audis key attempt..

TTurbine:

Thanks for the suggestion. I disconnected the battery for half an hour. After hooking it up the key still failed to go into the slot.

Have u tried wrestling the wheel and see if key goes in? Also maybe try after that half hr battery thing put key in door lock and lock it then unlock it and see if ignition key resets. I guess the weather was better at thill vs infineon. I remember seeing a white gt2 there. Mike

It's hard to imagine you broke something just by putting the wrong key in. Maybe you could call a
locksmith.

It could be, as 911/Q45 stated above, that the Audi key messed up the tumblers.

I am only "guessing" here, but with so much electronic stuff on these cars it could be that the system locked the key slot. Since the car didn't recognize the electronic signal of the Audi key as the correct signal, once the key was removed, maybe the system locked the ignition so no further attempts to "steal" the car could occur.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is going to be necessary.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Disconnected the battery again and locked and unlocked the door but to no avail. Also tried wiggling the steering wheel while trying to insert the key. No luck on that one either so it off to the dealer tomorrow.

996flt6 Thunderhill was a lot of fun. I am always intimated by Infinion and don't drive very well. At TH I can just let it rip.

Rodjac- so how do u like your gt2. Looks pretty stunning : ). Is it your first pcar or ie gt variant? Truly understand sp- it's already scary if dry but that day(rain) I don't know why I went on the track and I was on kuhmo v710's with an 80/80 guard LSD. Don't
plan to do that again. Mike

Just got the GT2 back from the dealer with a new ignition switch. 911/Q45 was correct in that the Audi key broke the switch. Accordion to the tech they see a number of these key mistakes--apparently the ignition doesn't like non-porsche penetration. All fixed under warranty. Incidentally, I took the car to Michael Stead in Walnut Creek (I bought it in LA). Based on two visits they are a first class outfit.

996flt6 I love the GT2 on the track. My prior track car was a 996 gt3. The 2 is a real blast by comparison, although that shouldn't take anything away from the 3 which at the time was far and away the best car I had ever driven.

Glad you got it fixed. Now put a Porsche emblem key fob on it about the size of a salad plate to prevent a reoccurence!

I will be carefull but not sure about the salad plate.

996flt6

Yes, I had a red one with roll bar, harness and red Recarro seats with black trim. A truly wonderful car when driven hard.
