GT3 RS Mk I or GT3 Mk II? Help!
Hi all,
After selling my previous Mk I GT3 and 6 GT2 I'm back like the prodigal son (after a M5, GTR, M3...etc) seeking your divine wisdom in deciding between a GT3 RS Mk I and a GT3 Mk II.
My thoughts are if it's a keeper then it's the GT3 RS Mk I but since it's newer hence desirable then its the GT3 Mk II.
I confess I have IPD (aka impulsive purchase disorder) as someone else said so I fall prey to 'must buy since it's newer camp' but want to change myself!
Please help.

if keeping long term .1RS
if you are putting lots of miles on it .2gt3
i am guessing long term the .1RS will hold value better and be more "special" whatever that means.
but .2gt3 is faster, more downforce etc, not by much though

If it were me, I'd go for the GT3 RS Mk I. Other than being IPD, what didn't you like about the M5, GTR or M3? That could give some insight into which might be the better choice for you. Or if you're really just IPD, why not a new GT3 RS Mk II?

Thanks guys for your early replies.
I can sense the logic of Mooty and Mspeedster and am kinda thinking along the same line but need some confirmation. The Mk2 GT3 may be a bit faster but when the newer model comes out I may be tempted to go for that and never end the cycle of upgrading. I guess I want to come to a point where I'm content with my car. Mspeedster, for instance the GTR was fast but honestly I had more fun w/ my 7GT3. You know why. It was more 'involving and engaging'. The GTR felt like a digital game. I really regret selling the GT3 and which is why I'm back. So this addresses your point Carrera GT on suggesting a 7GT2. It may be much quicker but is it as engaging/involving? Perhaps. Do I need over 520 BHP? But if I didn't drive them back to back wouldn't I have the same level of satisfaction w/ a Mk I GT3 RS? I guess simply put if I were on an island and only had a GT3 RS I'd probably still be very happy but on a relative sense if there was a 7GT2 there then I'd be praying for one too. Besides I wish I could afford one!

GT3 997.1 and 997.2 are great Porsches, the best.
however the GT3RS 997.1 and 997.2 are a little extra special and have a cult like following.
They are light weight wide bodies with special colors and decals. Porsches best offering for those who want something a little extra for either competition, show or weekend driver.
in 5 years, the GT3 997.1 and 997.2 will just be regular body Porsches, the 997.1 and 997.2RS will be known as low production limited build wide body Porsches........
in todays market, a 997.1RS can be had for a great deal. Go find a nice 997.1RS.
Once you go RS, you can never go back you know.........

Thanks TCracing1 and Mooty. I'm going for the Mk I RS. Never had one and always drooled at them. A pumpkin colored one is coming to my shores soon. Hopefully the deal materializes. All the best and many thanks for the pearls of wisdom.

I gotta get back to my little 996 board - this place is KILLING me! I want a Green .1RS sooo bad - I'm almost afraid of find ing a great deal. Good thing those Green ones are tough to find.

miles and price were right, CPO'd, perfect options (navi with no sport chrono! how cool is that!)
two sets of seats!
and the factory cage install was flawless. (i got pictures of the factory floor plates which are done perfect!)

Me, I still prefer the 2007 GT3 RS, in Orange with black decals, Sharkweks can fix the lack of power on any 997.1 GT3 for an affordable price.
