Default 997.1 GT3 or GT3RS for everyday driver

My 08 997 S is going back in 3 months after lease terminates and im trying to decide if i should get a 07 GT3 or an RS. It will be a daily driver, so i was concerned about the ride stiffness. I have a couple weekend track toys also, but i like the idea of enjoying my drive to work everyday.

What do you guys think

I daily drove all my previous Porsches and really enjoyed it, but unless your drive includes open roads and minimal stop/go, I personally wouldn't daily drive a GT3. The low splitter, heavy clutch and stiff suspension make the daily grind that much more irritating. If your route has some nice open roads, with a few traffic lights thrown in for good measure, then it's a different story.

Yeah its pretty open, mostly highway and only about 8 miles or so each way.

im pretty used to the front splitter with my aero kit now and i have springs on it so its kinda stiff.

A 997.1 GT3 or RS is essentially the same car so daily driving either will be the same. Given the choice you should take the RS if you prefer the looks but they make great everyday cars with some bite! The GT3 will, relatively, lose less money for higher mileage than the RS.

both are very soft much like cadillac.
i put 20,000 miles on each of mine in 12 months.
there is no worries. just drive them, either is fine. they feel pretty much the same and i had two of each.

My '07 RS on PASM "normal" feels about like my '07 C2S felt on "sport." Drive your '08 religiously in "sport" mode for the next three months and you'll know how you feel about it.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Provided it's durable enough, any car can be driven daily. The question is whether or not you can live with the car and no amount of internet group-think can make that decision for you. The GT3 demands that you adapt to it, not the other way around.

I've put roughly 14,000 miles on my '07 RS in the past 10 months. It's been my daily driver, track car, development car and general beater. I find the car pleasant and easy to drive, however I've daily-driven everything from an E30 M3 with a cage and no heat to Lotus to a Noble. My perspective may be skewed.

The GT3 is a great car in many respects, but the same pitfall exists with it as other cars: As you drive it more, you become more familiar with it to the point that boredom sets in. It's like having sex with a hot girl every day. Eventually, the novelty wears off. If you have another car you can drive for a few weeks at a time and come back to your mistress, you'll have a healthier relationship with the GT3.

the ride is great.... only downfall is how low the car sits to the ground for front bumper clearance.

either remove the front splitter or install CUP splitter as it is cheap, replaceable and very flexible.

for daily use you will want to stay away from GT2 seats and CGT seats as the side bolsters make quick entry/exit a pain in the *** and you will wear out fabric trying.

Either car is great; however, if you never plan on tracking it I would stay with the S. The 3 can really be appreciated on the track where it really shines.

Part of it depends on the value you place on a stealth/sleeper car. The RS (and to a lesser extent the GT3) can be seen and heard blocks away. That for me is a negative in a daily driver.

That said, I still manage to drive my RS every other day : ) The joys outweigh the downsides that other posters have mentioned. Then again, I tend to keep at least two front lips in inventory at any given point

either is fine. If I was looking today I would get the RS since the price is right around $100K.

I traded my C2S Cab on a GT3 last fall.
Drove it for ~2k KMs before winter hibernation (Canada, say no more!! ) and it's a sweet ride for sure, can't wait to get it on track to see how it really performs.
I looked at an RS for the same money, but opted for the GT3 as it mirrored my intended use more closely...

Can't lose with either IMO!

Now what about resale value, which will get hit harder 2 years from now with 20k plus milage. I was thinking they would probably be about the same percentage wise.

Found an RS with 4500 miles for 105k in orange which i love, but not sure about color as daily driver.

I sold my 07 GT3 because it didn't fit my version of what a daily driver AND track toy should be. Bought an 09 C2S w/ Sport PASM instead and couldn't be happier. Here in CT the roads and traffic are pretty bad, and the constant scraping (intersections, speed bumps, every driveway, etc.) got to me. Same with the clutch. The wing... Only you can decide.
