The story goes that one fine day at Porsche they were racking their collective brains to come up with something that could produce some added income in this time of economic crisis. At the same time they wanted to determine just how far the typical Porsche buyer would go in buying an option that normally no sane person would even consider and lo and behold the front end lift was born.
Next job was to determine price. Should it be priced at only 2 to 3 times actual cost to produce or should they go the full 9 yards and price it at the typical 10 times cost? They decided that since this was indeed a very unique option it should be atleast 20x actual cost. And so we have a $3500 option to elevate the unique front end of teh GT3.
My son had the best solution to the problem. Since he lives in Santa Monica, home of the deep dips in the roads (especially of 5th street} he decided to just leave the thing off when driving around town and put it back on when he either tracked the car or sold it. I was proud to see that I had raised a genius.

This topic is ponderous....

Drive it, scrape the sh*t out of it and replace it when it looks like a cheese grater. Done.

$3500.00 in my pocket for other goodies.

Friends - in the Delacour video and in the Preuninger RS night launch video, the scrape sounds are actually made by the front brake ducts - don't ask how I know.

Fortunately, those are also easily replaceable and quite cheap.

front lift allows our RS to go to some places that a car without lift cannot, end of discussion.

why are people bothered/concerned by others spending extra $3500 on their cars? this IS the real question.

+1 on this^^^^, the front spoiler and the front brake ducts are consumables.

+1. On Sunday, I was under the car car adjusting the front sway bar (softening it for more turn-in). I noticed that both my front brake ducts had scrape marks on them. This obviously happened on the road and is just part of the ownership experience. I also noticed the flaps that hang down in front of the wheels have some scrapes. Just a few more cheap parts to replace when I sell the car. Nothing to worry about until then.

I do not have the lift option on my GT3. Why would anyone want to add extra weight to a car that is made to be fast and lightweight? I think it adds 60 pounds to the car. Isn't this the whole idea of having a car like this...less weight and fast. It only raises the car a few inches anyway. Also, why sand your spoiler and use it again...why not sand it when it is on the car?

You're right - the more chunks you take out of the spoiler, the lighter the car and the faster it goes. That said, if you want to be that extreme, buy the RS and do away with everything. My perception is that the GT3 is a road car which is at home on the track whereas the RS is a track car which can be used on the road.

For your information, a few inches can make all the difference ... or so I'm told

I thought you were supposed to replace them when they're broken! My cup splitter is anything but pretty.

lighten up guys

that's a lot of money on viagra to get the car up

who cares how you get it up....

i think it's a good feature, i am just too cheap to get it and enjoy the screeching noise when i scrape the lip (i do that everywhere) and watch the ppl around me cringe... try drive over the speed bumps at 20 mph. it makes a crunching noise. my daughter loves that sound and wonders why mommy's lexus can't do it ;-)

2nd thought.... no. i NEVER scrape my lip spoiler..... i dont want to lower my future resale value.

I wonder if anyone has seen this aftermarket front axle lifting system? It looks pretty neat.

Why not just go with this setup?

On a more serious note, this is not a good sign for those in Utah or elsewhere if it catches on:

+1 - I've had mine the same length of time and my lip still looks new. Dealing with entering and exiting parking lots, driveways, etc. is a matter of technique and does require a little thinking ahead; I guess the lift would help for this. What the lift won't do anything for is the scraping that occurs while you're driving on the street, and this does happen from time to time while driving around in Houston; but, again, this is not visible unless you look at the lip from underneath the car.
