Default Atlas Grey not listed in the US GT3 Configurator?

I am in the market for a 2010 GT3. My dealer located an Atlas Grey GT3 for me (option code E7.)

However, when I looked at the Porsche US website GT3 configurator, the Atlas Grey color was not listed in there...

Is it just an error in the website?

Also, I haven't seen any Atlas Grey car in person. Is there anything special about this color that Porsche charges $3,140 on it? (instead of $710 compares to other metallic colors)

Regards,

Atlas Grey is not black. Also, unlike basic black, Atlas Grey is a metallic. You have to see the car in person but it is a lot different.

Atlas is my favorite Porsche color. I've seen the car your dealer is referring to at Auto Gallery, and it looks great. They also had standard black, Basalt, and Meteor GT3s a few weeks ago, and they are all very different colors (tried to buy the Meteor car, but apparently somebody else ended up paying more).

Atlas used to be a regular metallic paint color. I believe they made it a 'special' color starting in 2008.

Thanks folks for the feedback.

It is amazing that seems everyone already know which car it is even by just mentioning the color. I guess there is not many Atlas Grey GT3 around?

I haven't seen an Atlas Grey car in person. I tried to search the pictures on the web, and I was confused more... it seems under different lights it can be black, or dark grey, or medium grey, or high gross light grey, or a hint of blue, etc., etc.

For a grey color, it sure is a pricey option for $3,140 (about the price of a standard full leather interior, or Sport Bucket Seats.)

With best regards,

(Update: Diethelm, thanks for your pictures, it is a good reference for me and very helpful. If my wife gives the greenlight, I think I wouldl try to proceed with that Atlas Grey GT3. I will keep it posted.)

Depending on countries, Atlas Grey and Arctic Silver will be available for order (as stock options) only up to the end of July 2010. There will be two new metallic colors: Platinum Silver and Ice Blue. The Atlas Grey really changes its hue depending on the lighting; it could be black, dark grey, and even slightly dark blue or purple. The color guide in catalog is very misleading. Personally, I think it is definitely much more beautiful than solid Black, Basalt Black, Meteor Grey, or even Seal and Slate Grey. I actually prefer the Grey Black that is an optional color for GT3RS but do not want to deal with the even more expensive "Exclusive" stuffs, so I ordered my C4S with Atlas Grey and natural brown interior last week. Probably I will get the car around November. I love the GT3, but the manual transmission is too much for Bangkok traffic as I plan to drive my car almost everyday.

I think Atlas is one of the great paints. A 997.2 in Atlas is worth the absurd gouge for a factory worker to press the buttons on the paint robot.

Yes, that was the car I mentioned. And yes, it is in my garage now

The color is indeed special, it changes under different lightings.

If I could order one, that would be it! Best looking GT3, add a stainless roll cage, black and red harnesses, the red RS door pulls and your done!

i've now narrowed my options to 2 colors for my RS order. white/gold or atlas grey/gold. the black/grey rs color looks awsome in the dark but i can't get over how bad it looks in the direct sunlight. that pale, ****ty grey. but atlas grey still looks nice and dark even in the direct light and even better at night.
