Yeah, it's been discussed before. I say bring it on! I'm glad to see some of the technology getting tested in Porsche Sports Car racing.

Doesn't look much like a hybrid to me, more like the KERS that certainly were developed from some F1 teams in Weissach. I am wondering what their drivers will do when they get to push a button to gain 160hp for 6-8 seconds, instead of "more power" it will be "make the button permanent." Modern nitrous.
I'm quite certain there is a weight penalty for this system, and not sure how you would consider the rotating flywheel in the passenger seat area as a safety item, but all in all a very unique application.
I am already thinking how to engage this system for "torque vectoring" as an understeer assist, it would seem to be a better solution to use the front drive wheels as a solution instead of braking the opposite corner. Lots more to come I'm sure.

That's the key I think. New technology is always clunky. It's where they take it from this starting point that has potential to be very interesting.

And do not forget the gyroscopic effect... great to drive on flat tracks, without banking corners.
