Just saw this thread, here are some prices I got a while back...
For information only, here are some prices on various Porsche crate motors. These are PCA member prices and do not include a core charge.

996TT $ 28498.01
996TT X50 $ 27167.34
996GT2 $ 31602.82
997TT $ 24145.71
997GT2 $ 24555.95
DFI TT TBA
DFI 997 $ 12563.50
DFI 997 X50 $ 15784.25
Panamera TT $ 12491.53
08 Cayenne TT $ 11624.94
09 Cayenne TT $ 12464.96

You can see the true dry sumps are more expensive, more than 2X as much. Interestingly the Cayenne TT motor is about the same as the DFI 997. No price yet on the DFI TT motor.

Wow why do those flat sixs cost so much especially when the Cayanne V8 Turbo is just a fraction?

I can see instead of some hot rodders paying over $20K for a modded engine for their Model T they can be unique and get a Porsche engine! Which brings me to wonder now how much are those Corvette engines all the way up to the ZR1 engine?

Folks need to have paid more attention in their business classes.

Some businesses are low margin business. Some are high margin. The product and niche the company is trying to fill has a huge impact on what margins they try to obtain.

The cars cost alot, because they can sell it for alot.

Hence the high margins!

Wonder what the margins are on all of those engines?

That's the price delta for a GT1 based true dry dump vs the integrated aka wet sumps. Professional grade vs consumer grade if you will. Remember these prices don't include the core which could be quite a lot if you don't have one to exchange.
