Rad- this whole topic originated with me a few months ago thinking about the 599...they're heavily discounted from their high water marks.

eclou that's a great idea and I've actually been thinking about it in the last two weeks- came up in phone convo with my accountant...

I should have posted this thread as a poll!

the final thought here- I see a lot of ASKING prices on ferraris- but what are the ACTUAL prices?

I agree with your first point - I suspect you might be able to bump yourself up the priority list.

re: Market prices - Ferrari Market Letter is a pretty good data point if you haven't checked it.

What is FE?

I have to agree with the Whole Dealer thing for you. Plus with the market down the way it is, you can pick a few up and drive them or not and just wait.

I had the Ferrari itch myself a few years ago and bought a semi-new 360. As most ex-Ferrari owners will tell you will never have to scratch that itch again. But you have to find out for yourself.

Buy them all why you are still Single and can afford too!

Todd

In my opinion...
Ferrari's should be vintage. We still have, use and enjoy our 72 Dino, after 16 years of ownership. Ferrari's 'new' cars have all the service and cost negatives of the vintage cars with few of the upsides.

spoke with mclaren today on the phone, they're putting out the configurator in the "2nd quarter" and the car is undergoing a "road spec" series of tests as we speak.

maybe the 599 is the car I need to be looking at since I already have a carbon fiber "impractical" car, and then get the McSuper when it debuts. I'll see if I can get lewis and jensen to autograph it for me.

The guys (Charlie and Matt) at McLaren have been great to keep us informed via email and phone. The beauty is they aren't typical slick talking marketing people. I shared with them an aweful lot about my feeling on wheel size and construction, pushing for 19s all around (vs. 19 front 20 rear), forged, and tire sizes that aren't "unique" so we have some choices.

I don't think you can find fault with the 599. It is a really great grand touring car and they can be had for a pretty good deal. They are really quick, handles well and very comfortable. The only downside is that it is a big car and the looks are somewhat debatable.

I personally like the looks of the 599, especially in the really dark silver, or black

I agree, the 599 looks better in the darker colors. The car in silverstone, nero or even Pozzi blue looks great.

Ferrari Confirms 599 GTO, Spy Shots Hit The 'Net

Ferrari CEO Amadeo Felisa recently confirmed that the Prancing Horse plans to release a streetable version of the 599XX. The car will be dubbed 599 GTO, weigh 3600 pounds, and produce 650 HP. A range-topping Enzo successor is also planned.

Details are slim, but Felisa has confirmed that the GTO will make extensive use of lightweight materials and offer both modified gearbox ratios and aerodynamic bits. Wheel diameter will be at least twenty inches, and the car will reportedly produce twice as much downforce as the ordinary 599 GTB. The GTO will likely be unveiled at a dedicated event this summer.

Related Ferrari news:

458: Maranello has no plans to produce a 458 Scuderia
, but the 458 Spider will debut in 2011.

Hybrids: A 599 hybrid concept will be displayed at the Geneva auto show, but the company has no plans to produce a hybrid street car before 2015.

Fuel Efficiency: Cylinder deactivation, start-stop technology, and KERS will soon appear on production Ferraris, with the California being the first guinea pig.

Enzo Successor: To emphasize its "unique abilities," Maranello's next hypercar will be offered only in left-hand drive. A limited number (duh) will be sold.

Pictured is the McLaren MP4-12C's 176 Lbs carbon monoshell and the more important parts that bolt onto it.
Still no word on when we'll see McLaren's second road car actually on the road.
