I also fell for the myth that all the car magazines chewed out like a bunch of parrots that this is a track car you can use daily without compromise, but you would have to be previously driving a wheelbarrow all your life to feel comfy while doing it.
I would definitely recommend a GT3, but only with the knowledge that you most likely have a few other cars to fall back on for your other driving needs.

Of course, here in Florida frost-heaved roads are not an issue...

When I went from my 02 996 to the 04GT3 I found the same thing. I had stiffened up the C2 so much the GT3 was softer. It is all a balance. If you want a fast car that is also comfy get a SL. If you want drivers car and the quirks that go with it.. the GT3. I find that those that need to ask usually are better of with the softer car

Yeah, everybody is different and we probably all have different thresholds in terms of what is or isn´t a big bump in the road, etc.
We have to differentiate between primary and secondary ride quality. For example, the GT3 has a better ability to dampen some specific breaks in the road at certain speeds than for example a 3 series BMW, because it doesn´t have runflats and it has much more sophisticated and larger shock absorbers, but you really have to try for yourself to get the whole story. All in all, you probably couldn´t say that the GT3 is more comfortable, could you?

what year gt3 are we talking? i'm considering getting a 2004 gt3 and wondering if it'd be ok in the rain ... here in new york / jersey you're talking 4" a month average -- i drive 100 miles a day ... considering the gt3 as a daily driver ... have put 120k on my 2000 c4 which is monster good in rain & no problem in snow when i've had to deal ... wondering if i can do the same with a 2004 gt3 ... anyone?

Like everyone says, the PS2 tires will do well in rain.
Also, depends on which year of GT3 you are planning to get. Porsche adds PSM (Porsche Stability Management) on the 997.2 GT3.

Last year when I was contracting in Lithuania the owner of the company I worked for took me to get some groceries in his 959 in a mild snow storm. Was beyond fun and the car performed flawlessly. Told me he can't bring the F40 out until the snow melts!!!

I personallly would not use MPSC in wet conditions where they might encounter standing water, they are in my experience liable to aquaplaning...
The PZero Corsas are much better in such conditions, but as other suggest a PS2 would be a better solution...

Just get some real tires that are appropriate to the conditions and you are all set. I haven't missed a day yet in my car here in NJ. My car is lowered and runs with -3.0 F and -2.3 R all year long. No sense wasting perfect driving conditions to test out your car control skills.
