Default Can 911GT3RS turn a quicker lap than VIPER ACR at Nurburgring?

Ok, I'm certain most of us are very familiar with the following duel of a Porsche GT3RS and a Dodge Viper around the Nurburgring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4xQ3bfGP5s

Some of us may also well know of Dodge sponsoring last year the contingent of a VIPER ACR that broke the record for production cars at 7:22.1 around THE RING!

My question is this, can the new GT3RS break this record under the piloting of competent hands? Does the Porsche need more than 450 BHP to do this? Or would we need something like the Twin Turbo or perhaps the GT2 to accomplish the job.

Can the RS do it?

Cannot make up for the 150 BHP difference?

I just want Porsche to take back the record from Dodge. Seeming how both cars are similar in that they are produced primarily for track use yet are street legal!

Would we have to step up to the GT2 to do this?

Agree. ACR is formidable car with more torque & HP and better down force; tough to beat.
Too bad it's a Viper

i didn't realize the hp delta is 150hp.
even with better tire and better driver in the p car, that deficit is hard to make up.

Yup 150 more BHP, not to mention that crazy huge flat-*** Torque line coming on early too!

I think it would take a 570-600hp GT2RS, which will most likely never be produced. I think such a car would probably be better sorted when compared to the ACR so a 50hp difference could probably be overcome.

You don't think the current GT2 can do it with it's current BHP rating?

On a side note I'm thinking about attending a track day event just to fart around and watch. Truthfully I'm scared about catching the "track day" bug that most of you have. I don't want to build all this wealth up just to buy cars to race with. Cough cough cough!

GT2 cannot touch it either

watching a track day virtually guarantees eventual participation
do it -- it is very fun

clearly the ACR will slay the GT3RS on the ring based on solo tests.

The only way the 3 can have a chance is if it were a real world test that included a grid of competitors all on the track at the same time door to door racing.

I own a viper, and it is fun for a blast every now and then ( like a motorcycle) but give me the 3 anyday for not only DD but for competition too. The 3 inspires confidence that the viper simply cannot.

racing a viper is like dating a stripper. fast, unpredictable and requires alot of work.......

What it would take for the GT2 to match the ACR is slightly more power wich is very easy, increase the front lip slightly and or make the front wheel/tires 245 or even better a 255 and put in an Double or Triple adjustable shock with the proper springs!

It's a choice Porsche does not care about doing or at least not at this time!

The ACR.."American Club Racer" is a regular powertrain Viper that has had major Race prep, it has developed downforce similar to the race car, it has an improved chassis with adjustable KW shocks and it's sorted and focused on exactly this, being the fastest car of the bunch.

It saying this I have my car pretty sorted and the one area I see needing improvement is high speed front end grip, it's almost there. If I could find a race type of front spoiler lip and go with a slightly larger front wheel/tire combo it would be if it's not now a Viper Killer!

On MPSC using the Traqmate I have seen 1.65 g's in cornering, .879 acceleration and 1.36 braking.
