Where is the GT3RS Built?
I watched the Porsche Factory show on NatGeo. It said all the 911 variants, including the GT3 are made on the same assembly line. I saw reggular GT3s but no RSs or GT2s. Are they also made on the same lines as the other 911s and are the engines also assembled like the other 911 engines? Anyone know?

Yes, all are made at Porsche's factory in Zuffenhausen (industrial suburb of Stuttgart). Same for the engines. When I was on my last tour there (May 2007) I saw gt3 RS's on the assembly line along with all other 911 variants. It will be the same for the new RS. z356

They stopped making GT2's around when they started making the new GT3 and probably weren't making RS's yet when it was filmed. I saw the GT2's on the same line during a factory tour last year.

when I went in 2007 they had all the RS and GT3 and GT2, Turbo, etc stuff was all on the same line, like joe said it wasn't filmed this week...so it was probably before they started actually producing RS cars- as we don't have any stateside yet!

It can be found under GT3 RS revealed.
He says it was developed by the same engineers.

This is the outfit that Andreas talked about and gave credit for the development work on the 2010 RS: http://www.cartype.com/pages/2403/po...er_in_weissach I also believe that Weissach was heavily involved in the developing work on the 997.1 RS, although they are now making Motorsports' role more 'public' for marketing purposes this time around. The '10 997.2 RS is not a blank-slate new model. It is, according to news reports and Porsche AG, just an improved mid-model edition of the 997.1 RS. So if you believe that Motorsport has a heavy hand in the 2010 RS (which I do), then you probably have to assume they too had an equally active role in the original development work of the '07/'08 RS years ago. z356

The GT3Mk1 was the last production 911 that Porsche assembled (not built) by hand at Weissach. However today many of the GT3 and GT3 RS parts although assembled in Zuffenhausen come from Weissach Motorsport Center Logistic Facilities.

Re: Zico's "The GT3Mk1 was the last production 911 that Porsche assembled (not built) by hand at Weissach". Neither is true. 997.1 gt3 and gt3rs (mk1) were built at the regular production (assembly) line at Zuffenhausen. Compared to many over robotized auto production facilities in Germany (Mercedes and BMW come to mind), Porsches still have quite a bit of 'hand' work by the standards of the industry today. But don't confuse a racing RSR 'hand' assembled in Weissach with a with a gt3 RS built in Zuffenhausen. Even the former's 'in white' chassis was built on the Zuffenhausen production line. z356
