Interesting they had to go to a foam intake filter (to keep out water, I assume.) I see K&N having a nice little "earner" selling filters to RS 3.8 drivers. : )

Well done on the pix... Looks like the front side of a 997TT airbox (they used the same mold there) and the same filter (would make sense). The back section is different though.... Two cut outs worked well when we were messin' about with intake stuff a while back. I would imagine at speed and with proper airflow it might sneak in a pony or two:P

Exactly. Hence my question in another thread regarding whether anyone has dyno'd with functional ram air set-up. I've seen claims of +20hp at 125mph. Would be nice to see real numbers.

Hi Nizer, based on the testing we did (ok we didn't have an optimum fan set up) I would say 20hp would be optimistic. I would say more like 6-8hp is what we saw.

Freer flowing and not as restrictive as paper

K&N do a set up that appears to be an open filter that they, as usual, claim great gains from. Has anyone tried the K&N? I was going to but I couldn't be bothered spending all the money to prove that it doesn't do much...

My experience with K&Ns is that they don't make much, if any HP, (based on feel, dyno test, GTech and Passport GT1) on a well designed airbox/filter. They do seem to have more filter area, so they seem to last longer before you notice perfomance degradation (I tried it with my modded supercharged MR2 many years ago).

Also, it seems like air moves through them more readily. I know it sounds dumb, but the response on every car I've tried them on has been improved, even if there has been no apparent difference in power. To me, it's the same feeling you get from shortening the intake track, though not usually to the same degree. It's the only reason I still use them. If there is one for the 997.1 GT3RS, I'd try it.

But then I'm also don't like eGas throttle because it has the opposite effect.

It is still a paper filter guys. Just like the 997 turbo's filter. It has a foam section, but the filter is not foam. A pic may be in order to expalin this.
