My GT3 is back home and doing well.

To answer some prior questions, over the course of the first week I lost approx a fifth of the oil volume. The spots I saw were usu only about 3inchs, but the engine was leaking continuously. Every time I would start her up, I would get a short white cloud of smoke.

Turns out the leak was in and around the oil cooler and the mounting bracket. Forgive me because Im not sure exactly in there the leak originated. However, the mechanic told me later the oil cooler was constantly leaking and pooling on the top of the engine.

The dealer changed out completely the oil cooler, the mounting bracket, oil filter, and all o-rings. So far running fine. Taking her on a trip to south florida this weekend, hope I dont see any more problems.

As a side note, apparently there was one other instance of this happening on a new GT3. Where in the world it was, they didnt tell me.

Default Leak

I'm glad this leak worked out for you.

Go out and enjoy your car.

Just remember, you only have 2 more types of leaks to go (RMS, FMS) and then you can join our club - "the fully broken in" GT3.

If I haven't driven mine in a couple days, I too get a good sized white cloud at startup. It doesn't persist after that, and my freshly rebuilt 993 does the same thing.

I'd be surprised to hear from other owners of GT1-based cars if they don't ever see a bit of smoke when the engine is first started.

Same thing happens to me if it sits 2-3 days, 3 secs of smoke, than clean. I believe I've read it's fairly normal for a boxer type engine. When you see videos of a cupcar, they all smoke on startup.

i know this happened all the time with my cayman S at the track, but that was only after beating on it hard. I haven't even taken it above 5k for more than a few seconds, and with only 500 miles I have not pushed it, that is my concern more than the smoke. plus the car has only been sitting for maybe 20 hours or so between uses.

If you search, you'll see that the question about smoke at startup gets asked every few days (since the beginning of this board) somewhere on rennlist.

Are you sure you want to keep the car? I will worry you for ever, you should sell it to me.

This is no joke.

The oil leak stopped as far as I can tell, but now it wont shift into reverse.

They removed the gearbox to check the crank case pressures. This better only be a missed link.

I havent even been able to drive it sportingly and I ve already had two major problems.

Gee, makes you wonder how they got it out of the shop w/o using reverse.

Oil leak sounds and looks like from oil tank/tube area.

et the car back to the dealer and have them correct the reverse issue, and have them take it out to test it, then put back on lift to see if any oil leaks out.

I assume this happens (oil leak) when car has sit for sometime and it's cold?

I'll tell you, this just blows for a new '10 GT3 to leak and have issues like this. I hope they find all the bugs and you're back out in it.
