Great footage, the exhaust bypass sounds awesome!! Nice to see you were able to sneak the camera in for a few laps.

Its an 8.06 bridge to gantry with lots of traffic and a lack of commitment in the fast stuff. The day after we did a day with Ron Simmons from RSR Nurburg which has tidied it up a lot and made me much faster round there...

Nice vid, same time as mine a month ago in Theo's rental GT3 on PS2s. The 30 secs that need to be shaved to match the Rohrl's ultimate lap times are lost mostly in the hyperfast sections were you and I both lift (foxhole, etc.)

Last year I rented Ron's RSR GT3RS and he showed me the way around the fast corners, but in some sections I'm just not willing to go that fast at 10/10ths on Touristenfahrer.

I'm a big fan of the Martini colors too. My Cayman racecar will look very similar to your GT3

Having had more track time, now I am not lifting in those areas where I am losing time in that video and without the traffic should take an easy 30 seconds out of the 8.06. Quite how they get the GT3 down to 7.45 for the full circuit is a different matter... I'm out there in a week and a half and will try to get some new video.

Thanks, I am going to "glue" a Hero Motorsport "wide" to the front bumper of
my new 535i sport "waggin" which I am going to embarass myself in with a
few laps of the ring in a couple of weeks ... wondering if they will notice?

I wonder what sort of BtoG time I can squeeze out of that!

I'm going to be there from 8/2-8/6 attending the BMW school @ the ring (I think there are still places)

http://www.fahrerlehrgang.info/englisch_version.html

I'll be the embarassed GT3 pilot pretending that I am not driving a BMW Wagon!!!

It wasn't a great lap and I really wasn't trying for a time as tourist laps are never going to be the right time its just a slight benchmark. I am planning on racing there in VLN in August so just trying to get comfortable and familiar with the place. Back there next weekend but again not chasing times until racing calls for it!

That was my point, you're clearly not the average track day driver with such a lap time.
My personnal best thus far is around 8'20" BTG in conditions far more favourable than yours, and I've been there a few times already (two Hanseat courses + 3 other occasions).
There's a tendancy to believe that one can show up there and feather WR-league times without realizing how much commitment - and in some places sheer courage - this place requires.
Good luck for your VLN races !

Typical recipe for disaster at the 'Ring - I've seen it too often
YearOne obviously has some experience in competitive racing - explains the difference.
It's all relative: the good boys (weekend warriors with a lot experience at the 'Ring but without any racing background) achieve sub 8 mins laptimes for the full lap (not: BTG) on a GT3, whereas a newbie without any track experience might end up in the Hatzenbach armco (or worse) if he tries to "imitate" what he watches on YearOne's video.
I don't doubt that YearOne's comment in the vid ("no training, scruffy slow lap") is true, but it should be put into perspective.

@ YearOne: all the best for your VLN races - it's real racing on the greatest track in the world
