I was told yesterday by the dealer where I placed a deposit last year on the RS that the feeling is that it has been pushed back to late 2011 or later.
Maybe he was talking about my chances of getting one .

Get a deposit in early and let them know you're serious. Get the name of your regional rep and send a letter explaining why you want an RS - you're tracking the car, you want LWFW and lighter exhaust, which voids the warranty on standard GT3, etc. You'll get a car. Porsche needs to and will sell as many as they can, but they also need to separate real deposits from dreamers/speculators in order not to import too many cars.

I would not advise anyone to put in writing their intention to track the car (warranty reasons), unless by "tracking" you meant "closely following its development"..

Makes sense guys. The book value on the 04 vs 05 GT3 is a considerable difference. So, I'm wondering if that will be true on the 07 vs 08 RS and, if made, 10 vs 11 RS. Might be worthwhile to wait a few extra months. But, I would hate to miss out on an allocation because of it. Just like when I bought the 07 RS, it was very difficult to find out any firm info on the car.

i had 04 and 05 GT3, when i sold them, there was no difference in price. if it's a collector buying 100 mile cars, yes, but once it's got 10k miles on it, no difference.
i also had 07 and 08 RS. the 08 had only 5000 miles and a higher sticker, but sold much less than the 07 with 20,000 miles. sure, partly due to economy but really if the car isn't super low miles selling to a collector, i doubt there's a difference. the dealer will tell you so, but if i were buying, i wont care.

First, Porsche has made no definite announcement that there will be an RS or if one will come to the US. Everything to date is still speculation. Even in the European press announcement, they said "maybe" there will be an RS model. In fact, all those early spy photos and videos of the "RS" last year ended up being the regular GT3 that just came out.
Remember how everyone made such a big deal about the RS not having a sunroof. Porsche got over 1000 contacts from people wanting a GT3 without a sunroof and hence decided the 07' RS would not have one. For 2010, no GT3s get sunroofs. It is not even an option. They also get a stiffer suspension and significantly more downforce with the revised nose and rear wing than the previous RS had. So how much more of a change would there really be to an RS model? Would you be willing to pay $20-40k more for a bigger rear wing, painted wheels and side graphics?
Here is the last thing to think about. The production of 2010 GT3s is going to be far lower than 2004 or 2007. No dealer got over 6 allocations and most small dealers got none. Figure total production between 250 and 500 for the US for 2010. That is between a half an a quarter of 2004 or 2007 production. Porsche is backing down production for several reasons that include a changing market, helping buyers maintain resale and keeping their exclusive cars...exclusive.

If there was any substantive difference between the model years, then the story would be different. I'm aware of no such differences (except maybe the color palette for standard and special paint colors).

Besides, they are too busy marketing the Panamera and working on the next gen Cayenne, this is where the money is.

just try to sell your 04 and 05 to dealer, you get 3000 more tops. i am talking about cars with real mileage.
if garage queen, then yes 05 is substantially more $ than 04
