Default 2010 GT3 Advice

OK, just got approval, grudgingly, from the wife to get a 2010 GT3. She can't believe that I want to trade my 08 C2S, that I love. I explained that the GT3 is special, yeah, that helped.

Anyway, I got with my dealer earlier today. I'm hooked up on an October build, November delivery. He says he'll give me $61K for my cherry, aren't they all, Blk on Blk 911, $92K MRSP. 9k miles. I paid $88K OTD. Thing is that if I wait 4 months he says my trade will be only mid $50's. That means I'll be Porscheless for a few months. Is it worth it? I think the deal is, unfortunately, reasonable. I'd like more for the car but the tax savings will be $3600.00 vice selling it private party. The market just ain't that great with the 997.2 out now and the 2010's on the horizon. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I specced the GT3 lightly, Blk on Blk, with just sport chrono, sound package plus, red belts, self dimming mirrors and mats. Don't need a lot of bells and whistles as the car will be a weekender with a few track days a year. I'm concerned about how the alcantara will hold up, though.

I think it's going to be a long 4+ months!

What are the extra displays you get with Sport Chrono? I'm not keen on the stopwatch but was wondering if it gets anything useful in the on-board computer?

I traded my MY08 three weeks ago for a june build GT3 that probably won't be here until OCT. Ihave no Porshe either, and I think it sucks to lose more than 25% of the value of the car on trade, but wadda ya gonna do???

You could negotiate a better trade-in. I've always gotten the dealer to move significantly off their "first offer".

$27k loss and you're worried about tax savings and 4 months without a Porsche!!!???!!! Your wife should smack some sense into you

Your C2S is "special" and at the rate prices are falling on GT3's, would suggest if you have to make the move wait a bit and pick one up at a bargain.

Better yet, why don't you write me a check for the $27k and I'll put together a deal to get you into a GT3 and out of your C2S if losing your **** is not an issue

Just my $.02 worth...

IMHO, it’s a huge waste of $$, is ugly and interferes with my radar detector!! I could have bought 1 & 1/3 rear tires or 2 alignments from Tony for what it cost. I can honestly say I experimented with it one time and found it not very friendly. It’s never been used since.

just tell the dealer you need a better deal or you will walk. If you are not willing to walk away they got you. The GT3 is not selling like the previous years. How many of us got calls from the dealer asking if we wanted to pick of a 2004,2005,2007? He has to sell cars you do not have to buy one.

Forget Sport Chrono then. That is now off my order list.

Wow, thank god I'm not married to you. Please don't talk to my wife.

I know you are right, my C2S is special. Best car I ever owned. An absolute joy to drive. The GT3 is admittedly even more special though and thankfully I'm in a position where it is attainable.

Make no mistake, 27 grand is a lot of money as far as I'm concerned. To put it in perspective though I just got back from a vacation trip to Europe where I paid more than half that.... for 2 weeks. I've had my C2S for a year and a half.

Oh, hell. I admit it. It is not a smart decision. There is really no way to rationalize it. I just want that new GT3!!!

Look around on this list, in the last couple of weeks a number of people have posted that dealers have contacted them (including me) either with offers of
build slots, or noting availability of pre-specced cars...

combine that with the fact that Porsche recently reported a 30% drop in sales

I think you may wish to shop around a few dealers to see if they will give you a better deal ...
