Thanks all. I guess I will just have to wait and see until the actual cars come in.

I will give my friend, who has his coming in soon (if it is not held up at the port), a call and ask if he has any "official" documentation on the sunroof.

Because that's what they have consistently published as weight saving with the last two generations of GT3 RS compared to the standard GT3 (20 Kilograms or 44 pounds).

In the other markets, Porsche puts a lexan rear window, bucket race seats, LWFW and pretty much with these small changes, the GT3 RS becomes 20Kg lighter. For U.S. the bucket seats are not street legal, so they need to save the weight somewhere else, or (as they did) add weight to the base GT3.

My dealer just got off the phone with PCNA. No sunroof on Gen2 GT3.

The next RS will likely have the GT2 seats stock to save some of the weight over the standard sport seats...

ok fair enough - silly that porsche have put out such a ridiculuos benchmark for the RS weight saving - having to be a set weight lighter than the normal GT3. I dont get that - its whatever weight less it happens to be whilst stripping out whatever makes the GT3 still a good compromise as a daily driver - thats what the RS is, a no compromise 911. The GT3 is a semi-compromise.

So plastic rear windows for you guys on the RS then! Cant have it both ways - either they load up a lot of cr*p on the std GT3 to make the 44lb saving or they strip the RS bare of basic decent essentials like a glass window or you have to give in to the fact the RS is only only going to be a slight improvement over the normal GT3.

Why would the RS have the GT2 seats as standard when the lightweight bucket seats are 10kg lighter than the GT2 buckets? Seems sense to me that that RS will have the lightweight bucket seats as standard.

UPDATE - hmmmmmmm, just checked the US spec and perhaps you guys dont even get the option of the lightweight buckets as they dont appear on the US configurator! Is that true????? Seems porsche hard changes you guys with a compulsory added weight sunroof on the GT3 just so the RS can claim a weight saving and the option of semi-lightweight (GT2) buckets only!?!??!?!?!?!?

No, the 997.2 GT3 comes with sport seats (not GT2 seats). GT2 seats are a lightweight option on the GT3 and I suspect they will be standard on the RS to lower weight between the two cars in standard trim.

Yes, that's basically the situation. Sounds like this time we may avoid the burden of the holey roof though

I still maintain, from a pure marketing POV, it would be too hard to sell a GT3 AND an RS if the base Gt3 doesn't come with a S/R. Keep in mind the hardcore perspective on these boards isnt completely representative of the overall market.

Personally I want a S/R on the GT3 -it's the perfect street/sport 911.

If one wants a harder core car, they step up to the RS or build/buy a track car.

All just my opinion of course!

Because the RS is supposed to be lighter, otherwise why would it offer a performance benefit, and for some reason they think 20kg is enough.
