Anyone try the K&N Air Intake system which Performance Products claims to have produced an additional 25 hp on their in house dyno.
This was allegedly tested on a 07 3.6L RS.
No mention of any increased torque values.
If true, certainly worth the $395 asking price.

If it were that easy to get an extra 25bhp from the 3.6 do you think Porsche would have gone to all the trouble of making the new GT3 engine a 3.8 for a similar gain in power?

this?
http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...x?Prod=63-7001
those numbers are "ballsy" ... especially since the unit is more open to "hot" air from the engine compartment vs the factory box that has a seal against the engine cover intake ...
almost worth buying one and dynoing it ... I cant imagine it's true either!

I got 7 whp with a KN filter and modifying the air box -- on a dyno jet with my 996-3
air box mod -- my tech put air box housing on flow bench and started making adjustments that increased the cfm etc.. basically flowing more air through the filter etc...

everybody i know that has used the K&N has damaged their MAF.
about the airbox mod like fabspeed's the extra whp is on the dyno only with the decklid open for cool air. PJ can you confirm if you had the decklid open?

I just checked with my tech - open decklid
My mod is not like the fabspeed one which iirc is just a metal frame that holds the fully exposed filter
Tech took apart airbox and smoothed out the "corners" and put it back together
Fwiw in the real world I also have the manthey air collector - not sure that really helps below say 140

Victor,
Just to clarify, the mod to PJ's airbox retains the rear half of the OEM unit. Therefore, it is not open to engine heat under the rear bonnet.
FWIW, I have been utilizing a K&N drop in replacement air filter in the OEM airbox since '06 @15K miles w/o any MAF issues.
Can't comment about the Manthey air collector HP gains since I am slower than PJ

This reminds me of when I had an Acura Integra Type R and my friend had an Acura Integra GSR. My friend claimed that just by him putting in a K & N filter in his GSR he was getting additional 25hp. Of course Honda's engineers had to do a lot of work to get the Type R motor to put out 25 more hp than the GSR. This same "friend" thinks his stock E36 M3 is faster than my GT3!

please clarify smoothing of the box, as I may want to do it.
did you wash or wipe the oil off the filter? maybe it was from other sources but both GT3's that did the K&N had maf issues. the shop manager at my dealer told me the same thing.
I use a BMC and got an extra 100 WHP j/k
