Default uneven ceramic pad wear

I did a search and didn't find this specific wear problem. My from pad wear (on a 2008 GT2) is very uneven from top to bottom. After three track days the top of the pad was about 8mm thick (stock is 10mm) and the bottom of the pad was about 2mm thick. I keep checking the top of the pad because it is easy to see with the wheel on and almost missed the problem. Interestingly the wear was almost identical on both sides and on the inner and outer pad.

I had the brakes bled and installed new front pads. After two days at Laguna I checked the pads and the top of the pad is worn about 1mm while the bottom is worn about 5mm, again all four pads look about the same. Is this just the nature of the beast.

Also, can I remove the pads and flip inner and outer so the wear is at the top or would this be stupid.

I just changed my 7 gt3 ceramic pads. No uneven wear.
I would discuss this with a good porsche dealer

996toomey thanks for the link. I missed it on my search. I will still take the advice of rickg87 and have the dealer look at it.

Not an uncommon issue...

It's the heat that is causing the wear.

Switch to the "race pads" and your problems will disappear

Porsche bases its choice of pad materials for road vehicles on the usage profile and on the performance and comfort expectations of the typical customer. Brake pads optimized for road use are therefore installed on road vehicles as standard equipment.
Demands placed on the brakes by customers, e.g. for comfortable driving or even for race track use, can only be met by the use of pads with appropriately matched pad materials.
In order to cover the broadest possible range of uses, two types of brake pads are available for the 911 GT2 with PCCB.
911 GT2 vehicles come equipped from the factory with the “standard brake pad” .
An alternative pad - specifically optimized for race track use - can be retrofitted on the vehicle..

Installation: Retrofit only (at race track).
Characteristics: Reduced pad wear at high operating temperatures.
Higher tendency to squeal compared with standard pad.
Higher pedal forces required at low operating temperatures.

Brake pad for race track use only (PCCB)
Part Nos. of single pad:
996.351.940.93 ⇒ Brake pad front axle
997.352.930.91 ⇒ Brake pad rear axle

Identification: Green finish on all lateral pad surfaces.

964.612.026.70 ⇒ Jumper plug

MJONES: Many thanks for the information. Are these pad numbers the same as the P50 green pads that I have been looking at. I know that they say only for track use but would they be O.K. for driving to and from the track. I was used to RS19 front and RS14 rear on my 996 GT3 and didn't have a problem with off track use. Would the green pads be similar?

I had the same problem with the green pads as well. I got tired of burning through sets of pads and switched over to steels. The pads would only last 2 days at most. I couldn't be happier with the new setup.

Don't shoot me ...I'm just a messenger.
Each car will be different depending upon the driver...

For on track use the following advise is heeded:

⇒ The racing brake pad has no connection for the brake pad wear indicator. Given this, perform a visual inspection for sufficient pad thickness when installing and removing the racing brake pad or before and during race track use. .
