yes, you can have both cars. what i meant was you either have "big bang for the buck" or "spend more and get faster car". you can't have fast car and big bang... well maybe Z06, but old guy knows the story now.

i can ASSURE you it's not worth it. but ppl love to flush toilet with money. right, i am learning. i am slow learner.... as you noticed.

my first RS had xenon and paint (total 4k). msrp =128. now most ppl would do full leather (3k). so we are at 131. let just say we add another option or two totaling 4k, then we are at 135 for the OLD RS. thus 150 for the new RS should be within reason. your car is 80-85. so yes, you need another 65 + .....

i am waiting for ppl to dump their 7gt3 at 60 so i can buy another. you know this is mooty's idea of dollar cost averaging , if i keep buying chepaer used GT3, i will eventually smooth out the losses i suffered from my prior sales. hey.... i am on to something. so ... when you go crazy with RS, call me and sell me your car for 60. deal..

There are enough rumors out there that point to a more viable performance gap between the GT3 and RS this time around, purely speculation at this point unless someone else knows otherwise and is willing to share specific details.
my estimate of 150 for RS is based on basically no performance upgrade b/n GT3 and RS (like gen 1). if the perf gap is large or if RS is 4.0L, then it could very well be 170.

you can look at this:
GT3 112 to start
RS (if big perf gap) 150 to start (no option added yet)
GT2 is at 195 or so....

so you have a linear progression of dollar increase too.

my limit of any porsche is 150k, more than that i can't afford it.

FWIW, here's my 2 cents...

Smart money will buy the 997 GT3 when the Mk 2 debuts. Dumb money will buy the newest 'latest & greatest' hype. Some dealers, the real idiots, will attempt at gouging a markup...but the reality of the marketplace and the new economics will rule, i.e., MSRP at best initially and then some discount thereafter.

But WTF would I know...

I'm confident Porsche will price the new RS at a greater than $17K premium over the GT3 as they did for version 1.

My dealer is no idiot and will honor MSRP as matter of policy.

There will always be people with more money than brains and have to have the latest gizmoes. There will be lots of gen 1 GT3s available from these guys. To quote the eminent Parnelli Wulffini, "learn to drive the car as it is, it is more than you are!"

Even now under these circumstances, there will always be the few suckers/morons who will pay over to get one, and I expect all to be sold at MSRP with no hassles.

You're right. All GT3 at our local dealer are spoken for long time ago as Canadian car dealers do not get a lot of allocation. But the good news is our local dealer said they are not allowed to charge above MSRP.

In the meantime I'm on waitlist for the next gen GT3.

Well your dealer is about 96% better than all the others. I cant believe how many dealers worked deals with their fav customers to take a RS at MSRP sell it back so the dealer can turn it around for a quick 30-50k profit. Cutting out alot of his other customers. That doesnt include the dealers who confidently put a markup of $100k on their GT2s as late as Aug.

mooty,

If $150k is your upper bound on a p-car, would you try a used 7GT2 in that range or are you a NA purist track rat GT3 kinda dude?

I thought I wanted '10 GT3 but I'm getting lazy with the gearshifter in my old age . . . maybe my DD is a contributing factor (335i).

^ my DD is a E90 328i auto. but i now find it too "sporty" lol.
i now drive my wife's lexus RS350. love the boat ride. spilling coffee every where.

for some reason i just dont like GT2. it's a very fast and capable car. but i dont get a rise over it. i dont know why. same goes with 993TT or 993TTS. but i do like the 930.
