Default first drive on the wevo engine mounts...

- finally picked up the car
- fluid changes (engine oil, gear / lsd oil, brake fluid)
- tarret toe arms
- wevo engine mounts (softer of the 2 polymers)

- tarret toe arm feedback will have to wait until tomorrow at the track

- thought i would give street driving feedback of the engine mounts - good news is nothing to report, there is no increased vibration / noise in the cabin - no resonance of any kind

- the reason i decided to do the mounts is that i want to tighten everything down without crossing the line to track only car (noise, vibration, etc)

- now, with 996gt3 seats & sharkwerks exhaust, the "in cabin" experience isn't showroom floor identical (it is obviously a little louder with the exhaust and the lower less padded seats give it a more race car feel) - so maybe there is a small change with the mounts for street driving but i can't feel it (=good)

- i will say that with all of the above plus and a fresh alignment at (-2.7 with 1mm toe out per side and -2.3 with 2mm toe in per side, gt2 rear sway on middle hole) and a 4.0 R&P the car is pure heaven (it is a true sin to be driving it at 40mph around the city)

- tomorrow i hope to burn through 3 tanks of gas on the track

That's the way to do it. Do the mounts make any difference in handling slop, real or perceived?

Are you going to Shannoville or Mosport?

Wish I could have made it...next time.

SMP is a good place to get to know your car... which is what I need to do.

Are you guys coming to the 6th Gear day at Mosport next week?

I'd love to do Mosport next week, but I'm heading to Calabogie for the first time on the 8th. Can't wait to try out 21 corners along 5km of perfect pavement! I will be doing the rennlist Mosport day on the 8th of June though.

Everytime I've changed engine mounts in a car, it's made a profound difference in the NVH inside the cabin. If there is no difference in NVH from the solid mounts, perhaps the factory units are actually quite hard? Alternatively, perhaps the structure that the engine mounts to is also isolated from the body (subframe?).

To support this argument, every 911 I've owned prior to the GT3 has had an uneasy feeling from the rear when accelerating and cornering over bumps. In the 964 and 993, it would feel like the rear end is slipping, when it fact it was just the engine moving around. The feeling would be of the engine moving up and to the outside of the corner and then settling back down. I have not been able to feel this in the GT3, it seems to go over the bumps as one unit.

Any thoughts from others?

Farz

See you tomorrow am
Your butt is more familiar to the 911 wiggle than mine so maybe I feel it more (and I do) in the gt3
Even I am getting use to it but all you have to do is follow another gt3 around the track (mosport like we know) and just watch the rear end shimmy
I accept it now as I know it will hold if your right foot stays in it and your hands are ready but my goal is to reduce it further

I can remember a particular session at Mosport following a gt3 for session after session and just laughing at the rear end wiggle all while constantly correcting the car myself

I know it is not just the engine amount (what % I do not know) but also the rubber in the suspension (likely most of it) but my goal is to reduce it without crossing the line

Next winter I plan on going most of the rest of the way but again keeping it streetable - Motons, certain key monoballs and maybe control arms if sealit.com rubber boots can keep things quiet and clean

See you at 630

I just changed mine. I have no rubber in the suspension. I did not notice the deflection of the mounts until I changed the suspension and am pulling more G's. I was not able to get into third under high load over 1g per traqmate but that seems to be solved with the new mounts.

No increased noise but there is more vibration.

I had the same problems with the 996 GT3 and 997 GT3 RS at autoX going from 2nd to 3rd during high G turns.

I broke a transmission mount in my old GT3 once, and put a Cup solid mount. I could not tolerate the vibrations, took it out and sold it.

pscht massage chair! try a dentist drill. Ask Rad. Don't get solid mounts.

wevo or rs mounts are not that bad, the whole car makes noise anyway. the nuts and bolts are slowly coming loose in the dash but that's fixed with some loctite on the screws.

Consider missing third and hitting 1st. Happened to me, burnt my clutch up trying to save it. Car's fine I hit 8500 or so. Funny, my coach was in the car and he's like don't worry about it i had the rsr up to 10k once. I'm like did you notice the carpet?? this is not an RSR and I'm not rebuilding the engine in 30 hrs.

The WEVO mounts are not solid - they're a plastic elastomer. They have pretty good vibration isolation, but should improve handling and shifting precision under load.

With rs mounts on 6 gt3 still 2-3 upshift difficulty at higher g-loads are still present at the track. I really dont feel ne difference compared to stock. Mike
