Default Dynamic Engine mounts!

Since this is a brand new option I thought I would post a "simple" poll and see if it revealed any telling results.

I think it's one of the "must haves".... I'm a sucker for new technology but when Porsche rolls out with something "new" you know it's going to usually be good.

Perhaps Walter Rohl or someone of his caliber can describe how the dynamic engine mounts work and how our lap times will be improved because I don't think any of us will ever feel it.

The question is, are they stiffer than what we currently have or do they just get softer so you don't feel the engine as much driving around town quietly? Or is it like PASM on cars with it as an option, PASM is stiffer and softer than the non-PASM equipped models which have a medium setting.

Here is how they are described:

"Electronically controlled engine mount with variable rigidity and damping system for automatic changing of engine mount characteristics by a magnestisable (magneto-rheological) fluid and an electrically generated magnetic field. This increases both driving dynamics and driving comfort. Depending on the driving condtions, lateral dynamics are increased with an almost completely rigid link of the power unit to the chassis in the style of the 911 GT3 Cup and 911 GT3 RSR racing cars. Or a more flexible link can be selected to provide increased driving comfort."

Sounds like that means they are just like PASM then, stiffer than previous as well as softer than previous.

Hey Pogue,

Can you add a reply to your poll that this option is not important to somebody?

BTW, thanks for the compliment on the photos from the NYIAS!

It's missing a choice on the poll : "No. Thanks"

I mean it sounds great on paper but is it worth it? Any of you guys with a Mk1 GT3 felt the need for it?
I'd be afraid it might be one more thing that can go wrong or you have to maintain long term. VERY undecided on this one.
But if it's anything like PASM, it's a proven technology from Porsche.

I tried to edit the poll earlier but couldn't figure it out.

I just decided to leave it, if it is not important to someone, they are probably undecided.

It may be important to some, but they may choose not to pay for it.

The undecided category will include "no, thanks" and gives them the benefit of appearing to be open minded and inquisitive!

Now you know why I am not in Market Research (and always get the choices wrong).

I am thinking 'must have' if primarily tracking. Per the interview link I posted, it appears the same reduces engine movement from 18 mm (mkI) to 1.7-1.8 mm under hard cornering/braking. Also at 3K rpm, it loosens to lessen vibrations for cruising. See 9:30 to 11:30 of same.

For someone who doesn't mind a little extra noise/vibration or uses the car on the track often, I think getting some Wevo Semi-Solid mounts could be the better choice (cheaper, simpler, lighter, etc.)

One of the things that I noticed from stiffer engine mounts in the 911 was crisper & more accurate shifting.
