Uh, they've been doing that for a couple of years now. If what we're seeing about the next RS pans out (wider front fenders, more hp than the standard GT3, true cup-style wing, etc) it will be doing more justice to the RS legacy than the '07 and '08 (which, other than a few cheap parts, some loud paint and stickers, was indistinguishable from the "normal" GT3).

Lets not forget about the Widebody in 2wd platform......
but yeah, i few more ponies and zero option list would have been nice too...

Above all, we should remember that the original intent of the RS was "simplicity" and light weight. Load up on the new marketing machine and get sport chrono, blue tooth interface, Nav and bun warmers (and of course full-leather) and you have a pregnant Corvette!
Good luck. Above all give it more power, more weight and lots of goodies. I can forsee the Panamera RS real soon.

I won't be paying any markup for (or even purchasing) an RS, because I (unlike you) recognize that there will be a better and rarer car just around the corner, and that "RS" just like "GTS" has become the German abbreviation for "$20k extra in profit."

I can tell by your post that you wish your green RS was a beautiful and unique snowflake, that you thought it was when you bought it, and that you are more than a little pissed that they're making a better one.

IMHO
i think the fact that Porsche built less then 1500 normally aspirated 2wd cars in widebody format for 2007-2008 was special to me. Espcially in the orange or the green colors...
Now, if i didnt do track events and such, and wanted a great daily driver i would probably have a carrera 2S as they are great cars.
